People are going crazy over this eclipse happening in august. There will be nowhere to stay and I'm predicting traffic will be horrendous. Granted the house is a decent sized one(6 bedrooms iirc ) but even for here that's a decent hunk of change for a short term rental. On the contrary that probably only covers the mortage(if he has one) for a 4-6 months.
Maybe I should rent out my yard to some people who want to throw up tents. In conclusion, stay away from GTNP and YNP in August, it's going to be crazy as hell. |

I plan on making a day trip of it with my kids. Should be neat for little ones with a big interest in space stuff to get to experience an orbital phenomena.

OP, that's not really going to happen (the rental, not the eclipse).
I've lived through two HUGE events where everybody in town was going to rent their house out for $87,000. Nobody did. |

40K for 2 weeks? There better be a mountain of blow and a bevy of hookers included.
|
|
I watched the ISS fly right over my house the other night.
For free. |
|
during the memorial golf tourney, my buddy's house was rented out for $20k for 5 fucking days!!! prime location and size...
his family just stayed at their other house |

View Quote My wife works with one of the hotels here, we know how much all the places are charging per night and the minimum number of days for a stay around that time. To compare, 40k for two weeks is not far off. I'm expecting its renting for that price. |

I've seen one of those in my lifetime and IIRC they said the next wouldn't occur for 5000 years (or so). My, how time flies.

most likely that will be tax free $$
short term rentals of 14 days or less you do not have to pay taxes on the $$$ |

My parents stayed a couple months in a house that rented out for $12,000 a week in the winter. No peak times, just regular ski season rental. From google: It is a popular misconception that the phenomenon of a total eclipse of the sun is a rare occurrence. Quite the contrary. Approximately once every 18 months (on average) a total solar eclipse is visible from some place on the Earth's surface. That's two totalities for every three years. |

What are the hotels charging, and how many nights. What kind of hotels ? I'm sure there is a range of price between the quality of hotels. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

I've debated on taking off and pulling my son out of school. Drive about 2hrs.
Guess we could find a walmart parking lot or some place to view it. |
|
It would really suck if it rained that day.
People are really pretty stupid |
|
not sure I'd be up for renting my property, sister and BIL rent out their house in Vail, sis decorated it just so. The management/rental company failed to inventory all the furnishings and furniture after renting it. Sis and BIL were rather pissed when they went out for ski season......a whole bunch of their stuff had walked off.

...Maybe I should rent out my yard to some people who want to throw up tents. ... View Quote FWIW, people within walking distance of Bristol Motor Speedway (this weekend, BTW) get $100 for two nights. Rent a Porta-Potty, hand out garbage bags, and have a place designated to leave them. A run or two to the landfill afterwards to drop them off and you can stuff the savings account with a bunch of bucks. |

I really want to go see it. I'll have to drive up the east coast, maybe park somewhere... Maybe I should do some better planning.

lol $40,000 my ass. Hes is flat out lying or trying to brag it up adding a 0 when hes renting it for $4,000.

Why even bother at all?
Within hours afterward, some telescope geek hobbyist will have HD video up on YouTube. You can watch that shit from your couch without even changing your soiled tighty-whiteys or putting down the bowl of Cheetos. |

No eclipse, but it happens here the first week of April, I know of several families with very nice homes that have never made a single mortgage payment out of their own pocket, they rent the place out for 10-30K for the first week of April, and that covers it. I know more than one family with a very nice home who did the same thing, and continue to, and that one to two week per year of rental has paid for the home, and incredibly nice vacations every year for years since the mortgage was paid off.
Does your town have inexpensive pimento cheese and egg salad sandwiches? |

I was in Montana in 1980 when the solar eclipse happened there. It truly was one of the most memorable things I have seen. I will see this one.

Then you flew your Lear jet up to Nova Scotia to see the total eclipse of the sun.

That thing is cutting 100 mile wide path through the entire CONUS. That's a big supply of rental houses. And you don't have to rent a house to see it. You can just drive into the path. Nobody's paying $476 per bedroom per night for two weeks to see something that lasts two hours and can be seen for free. Maybe if he regularly rents his house for $19,000 a week in the summer, he can bump it $20,000 for the week of the eclipse, but otherwise not happening. In this thread, some people show that they have zero clue what wealthy people spend on frivolous shit.
"I'll just camp out at the truck stop and sleep on top of my station wagon! Lot lizards will keep me warm." In another thread about buying reasonable items(cars/trucks/guns/optics), the mantra becomes... "Go be poor somewhere else, faggot!!!!1111!!1!one-niner" LOL. Fucking GD |
