Friends aunt brought a bottle to Easter dinner, she asked if anyone wanted to buy it. I know this stuff was sought after, but this is a bottle of 15yo, not the 23yo.

I've never tried a bottle of pappy, what should I offer for it? She is seeing the online places listing them for $900-1500, but I'm thinking she got one of the lotto spots they draw and you get to buy it for $79.  I'm fine paying for it if that's what they actually go for, but if the hype has died down and they aren't going for hundreds of dollars I don't want to over pay.

87 dollars... over rated.  New batch is coming out soon right?

$100 if rarity means something to you, skip it and buy 3-4 bottles of Evan Williams Single Barrel if you want excellent whiskey to pour into your mouth.

In for the answer

Drank 2 shots of 10 year old pappy this weekend.

Pearls before swine in my case.

Peanut taste maybe ???

Tell her you'll offer what she paid for it plus a bit for her trouble.  See if she bites and tells you how much she paid.  Then offer her $50 over and thank her for being such a nice aunt to your friend.  Oh, I assume it has the laser coding so you know it's authentic?

Weller 12 is the same thing, just not the choicest of choicest barrels.

seriously, dealer cost is under $80 bottle for 15yr. online they fetch up to $400.00.

I have 10 and 15 year.  I would buy others before I spent crazy $$ on pappy.Attachment Attached File

Weller 12 is delicious and a TREMENDOUS value. Weller 12 and Elijah Craig 12 (RIP ) are two of my favorites.

It's really good bourbon and much sought after.  MSRP is about $179.00, but you rarely see it for that price.  If you got it for $500 you could easily double you money in the secondary market.  What's she asking for it?  If you intend to drink it I'd offer her $300 and open it on the spot.  Kind of a bucket list pour with the family, making a memory type deal.

She got it in the lotto. I'll tell my buddy to see what she wants. I know the local wine and spirits place sells them for $80-115 if you win a lotto spot.

I think the once a year Pappy release is in September or October.

This is exactly what I told him. Open it on the spot and offer her a pour so that she knows he isn't going to flip it on her.

I haven't tried the 15, and if it's anything like I'd expect it to be, $100-$125 would be what I'd pay for it.  I might change my tune if I ever try it, but for now that's what I'm going with

I have had the 20 and 23, and I can drive to Louisville and take the Evan Williams tour and buy their 23 year 750ml for $300.  It is very similar to the Pappy 20.

The 15 is my favorite.  Got one last year in the lottery $79.95.  I would offer her double that but the E.H. Taylor Small Batch at $39.95 is almost as good.

Ehhh... go score a bottle of Blanton's and live happy.

I've bought and sold a few of these of different ages.  The 15 yr is considered the best of the bunch by collectors and connosuirs.  It goes for close to the same price as the 20 yr.  Unless you are a collector, I wouldn't buy the stuff unless you can get it for a price that allows you to flip it for a profit.  Offer her $500 and then sell it to a guy at ibuypappyvanwinkle.com.

So a guest shows up to eat Easter dinner and tries to sell a bottle of booze?  Why didn't she crack it and share it?

It's good bourbon but not worth the neckbeard prices. I used to be guaranteed multiple bottles a year but the whiskey hipsters and neckbeards have ruined the supply in my AO.

Everybody acts like Weller 12yr is sooo easy to get....its not. I get in a couple lottery's a year and that stuff goes right behind the Pappy. Even Old Antique 107 is unobtanium now.

I offered somebody on here $100 for a bottle of Weller 12 yr.....crickets.

If you can get the Pappy 15yr for a decent price I'll give you $250 for it. And I'm not buying to resell....Got a bottle 10yr and 12yr....15yr is next on my list
