I volunteered to judge for a local school. Anyone know about this?

I tried some videos, but they are mostly technique oriented. I get the faults and where to measure.......I think I'm lacking in the process itself. Is it 3 jumps per runner? NCAA D3.

Any pointers?

Isn't the person who jumps the longest the winner?

Isn't much more to it than this. Make sure they don't fault.  Measure.

Are you a ref for the triple jump or long jump?

There is a toe board which they can't step on. Everyone gets three jumps then the top 8 get 3 more. Usually the top 8 get re-ordered shortest to longest jump. As soon as their name is called they have 60 seconds to jump. I believe the max tail wind is 2 m/s.

Make sure the sand is raked and wet so it's soft.

They can take off on the board, behind the board away from the pit, but not past the board.

Measure the nearest mark. Doesn't matter if it is a foot print, hand print, or where they fell.

Some divisions will allow for them to walk back towards the runway in the pit but they'll measure the nearest foot step. Other divisions with the athletes walking back in the pit is a fault.

3 attempts, some meets allow for a finals with just one attempt.

Make sure they jump off of both feet. If they take off of only one foot then they're kicked out of the event.

I jumped in high school.  pm for ypur questions.

Typically three jumps per person.  If you stop before you jump, and don't cross.the.line, it doesn't count as an attempt.  Measure.from the closest portion od the board (to the pit) to the mark closest to that.  So if they land, then fall back, it's wherever their fall took them, not where their feet hit.  If their jump starts 4 feet before they hit the board,  you still measureoff the board and they lose those 4 feet.

You can step on the board but not cross over it (the board edge closest to the pit).
Rake between jumpers, NOT wet.  That's called mud.

Both same pit....

@LuckyDucky

Appreciate that helpfulness, and I may read that. I don't have time and I wasn't given the book. Kinda going on the fly here. Is that pay only, or can I find that somewhere else? Just don't want to embarrass myself.

To the furthest back point (ie shortest distance) be it foot, hand, butt, or whatever...

And make sure the sand is raked before the next jump...
