Mostly because of people "Grazing"
Grazing: Surfing the bar and eating while walking, not just getting food and sitting down to eat it. Thoughts? |
I hate buffets. The food is of very low quality and you have to severely overeat to get your money's worth. Go to a real restaurant or eat at home.
If I have to get up and serve myself, I might as well do it in the comfort of my own home. |
Last time I went to a buffet I got food poisoning. That was ten years ago and have not been back since. Really don't miss it.

I love the vegas ones
And one here, they have all you can eat crab legs for under $20 |

people are gross and most restaurant servings are more than you can finish anyway so no reason for "all you can eat".

I hate it when they take a bite of something and put it back.

Love buffets. I can't recall seeing grazers but, then again the older I get the more germaphobe I get. So I may be to focused on how many nose pickers, and fucks that don't wash their hands after the restroom, touching all the dishing utensils.

You just reminded me I have to go back to Vegas to visit the Bacchanal at Caesars and the Wicked Spoon at the Cosmo.

Also it's like eating leftovers if the place is slow and lets the food bake.
I will avoid a buffet except for one or two nice clean Chinese restaurants (the rest no fn way). Your food trough poor/fatso buffet nope nope Nope. A rare high end restaurant doing a holiday buffet I don't mind. Also if they're really expensive for the buffet I will order off the menu and happily eat less. I am not going to base my dinner portion on 'getting my money's worth'. Overeating is a pain I don't need or want. |

View Quote I agree and almost never will elect to go to one for the very reasons you mentioned. That being said the one exception I'll make is an Amish buffet. First because I've never seen that kind of behavior at one and second because they tend to serve very high quality food. In my somewhat close area there are a couple that I actually enjoy going to whenever I'm in their area. |

Back when decent buffets were half what it cost to get passable food at a sit down full service place?
Maybe. Now? Why, unless the nearest other sit down place is 50 miles away? Quality over quantity. |
Now, I HAVE eaten at a few of the higher class setups at country clubs, etc, for Thanksgiving, no comparison.
I agree 100% But actually the only buffet I found to be any good was Chuck-a-Rama in Salt Lake. It's been a few years so I stand corrected if it's gone down hill.

Ill have some of the yella...and dont get cheap on me Attached File

Lots of buffets load their food to the max on sodium. Thirsty person drinks more liquids. Liquids fill belly up. Sodium puts a lot of stress on the kidneys.
Have you ever seen the hands of people touching the serving spoons. Disgusting. |
I tend not to give a fuck what other people do as long as it doesn't affect me. As long as they're not pawing the food with their grubby mitts, who gives a fuck??? Well, apparently OP.
Oh yeah, don't be slowing down the line with the grazing either or there will be blood. |
I have never seen that happen at a buffet. I can imagine it would be disturbing to witness.
love me some buffets, just went to golden corral last night for the meat spectacular, might try and drag the wife back tonight for some steak.been treating her so good might splash in the chocolate fountain later

Low quality food.
Portions out of control. The people that frequent them. Whats not to love? |
I used to love buffets. We went to Homestyle Buffet when I was younger. Now I can't even do a potluck at work, shit freaks me out.
Jesus Christ! You guys no Golden Corral ain't the only buffet in town, right? I have been to buffets at some pretty fucking fancy soirees in my day!

I agree. If I eat out it's quality more than quantity I'm after.

You -- most of GD from the sounds of it, haven't been to the right buffets. I present The Red Apple Buffet in Chicago. Polish Food Heaven. And everyone is well behaved. I cannot recommend it highly enough!
Not all buffets are like Golden Corral. I've eaten at some amazing buffets. The seafood buffet at the Rio in Vegas comes to mind.
As to the low rent, no manners crowd...the price of a buffet usually dictates the number of cretins in attendance. |
I had this happened a few times.
A group of us goes out for Chinese. One person in the group will always leave when it's NOT A BUFFET. That's even before reading the menu or ask if the food is any good at the place. The same person will always up at red lobster or applebees down the street which is not a buffet. What's the deal with that? |

Last buffet I ate at was roughly 70ish a plate. It was pretty good
Because some people's kitchens are health hazards as are their food handling skills. And don't forget the crazy cat lady who's dishes also have her pets hair........
Anybody with a blanket hatred for buffets has only been to shitty poor people buffets.
Check out Caesars or the Bellagio and get back to me. If I had 1 meal left on earth, those two would be in the discussion. |
When I was in my twenties I ate at one and got food poisoning. It was extremely unpleasant. I haven't ate at one in probably 30 years and won't ever again. The food isn't that good and the people that frequent them are disgusting.

I only eat buffet at one Chinese restaurant locally, and it is because they are good, can get all protein on the Hibachi, and I can halfway control myself. I can stop myself after two modest plates (one Hibachi that is all meat and mushrooms) and a selection of their fresh stuff on the buffet.
