From work. She's an RN in a Cardiac EP lab. The teams generally consist of an EP doc, the RN and two techs. Fascinating stuff. The colored fabric on her chest area is actually a lead vest to block radiation. What do other Arfcom spouses do?

I had one of those done last year after my heart attack.

It was a lot sportier than the 'regular' caths where I got my stents. Something about tubes shoved into both sides of the groin that makes the one in the arm seem like a cakewalk.

Was it a "ablation" where they burn pathways across the surface of the heart to stop bad electrical currents?

She's told me stories about how they go "transceptal", actually piercing the heart with a catheter.

That's cool. Mine pulled a few shifts in the ER too but it was just temporary until their EP lab got going and she didn't get a chance to see any MVAs/traumas.

I hear they're quite expensive. She told me they just started using one where the tip heats up so the doc doesn't have to use so much pressure and risk a tear in the other chamber. I'm probably not describing it right.

Electrophysiology.

There are two types of interventional cardiologists...plumbers (clear blockages, place stents) and electricians (fix electrical disturbances). The electricians have 3-4 more years of schooling beyond the plumbers.
