Digital is digital right? Just ones and zeros. Wrong. It's an analog signal interpreted to be 1 and 0. It's not truly digital. There are rise and fall times and which edge triggers the transition.

I noticed that my outdoor TV which I take outside every night along with a small cable box picture didn't look like HDTV should. No artifacts but below stunning. Now this HDMI cable is abused. Bend radius? Fuck that spec that nobody pays attention to except me in my real job building data centers. Put a scanner on fiber and twist it around you finger. It will fail.

Moral of the story is I abused a cable and now see artifacts when I move it. With modern codecs you won't notice it. Don't fuck with the physical layer. Fiber can fail unless you scan an certify it for 10/40/100 gig. I can make it fail by wrapping around my finger.

I still don't like 10g over twisted pair unless fully scanned and certified. Bandwidth of a cable and standards exist for a reason.

Well, we know that there is a hell of a difference between Cat 5 and Cat 6, and say... Twinax. Cables are not made equal, however, if it says it's certified for a particular version of HDMI... then use it. :)

I think some HDMI cables have ethernet.... so, it maybe possible for your smart TV to get access to the Internet through your dvd or dvr....

You may or may not want your smart tv to have access to the internet..... apparently Samsung can turn a microphone on and off remotely on some of their televisions.

Don't fuck with the physical layer. Bend radius is a thing. This why all network pros tell you to not make your own patch cables. My point is don't fall for digital is digital. It's not. Quality cables dont have to be expensive.

I watch TV outside quite a bit but it is on an iPad mini with no cables attached! It seems fine. I don't know if it is possible to wrap a wifi signal around my finger but if I did, would that mess up my TV signal?

If it has the official HDMI on it, it is good to go.
It is 1s and 0s. They are either their or not.

The cable itself can be damaged by excessive bends etc but that has nothing to do with the HDMI connectors.

I had a shit head at AudioQuest tell me they're mega expensive cables provided noticeable improvements to picture quality and color. He was full of shit and had no idea how digital even worked. Yes shitty cables can result in dropped packets but again it needs to be a shitty out of spec cable. Long runs are also adversely affected by poor quality cables.

Somebody that builds datacenters. Fiber has bandwidth ratings if you didn't know. Try using 62.5 micron fiber for gig. Good luck.

Aye, it makes no difference what so ever, I have built a few call centers in my day including patching the NOC. You create your own cables so the length is correct and you don't go looping up lengths of cable. Can't crimp your own Ethernet...lol.

Of course not. But then again, as long as enough signal is getting to the receiver to be identified as a 1 state then the quality beyond that doesn't matter. In your case it wasn't so you were dropping bits. But that doesn't mean your need is a $2,000 ozone free solid gold Monster cable.

Naw, HDMI is a standard not a cable. Those gold cables are the biggest scam going. I buy the cheapest ones I can, that'll be the day I buy the $50 HDMI cables at Best Buy. Total scam.
