Scores range from 300 to 850, the data comes from Experian. The national average ends up being 673, this is kind of shocking to me since my banker seemed to stress the necessity of a 720 credit score to get a loan with the best rate. Obviously, not everyone owns their home, but even in the state with the highest average – Minnesota – the average is only 706.5. Even then, the state ranks a full 7 points ahead of the runner up – Wisconsin.

Someone has to bring up the rear and for this metric, that someone is the state of Georgia, with an average credit score of 642.

I'd like to see the median credit score chart. It only takes a few fuckers with absolutely horrible credit to really drag down the overall score.

A low credit score isn't a result of being poor. It's a result of being stupid with money/credit which incidentally is often the root cause of being poor.

Credit scores are pretty much a method in which financial institutions can fuck you.

"Oh, someone looked at your credit score? We better lower your credit score!"

Credit Karma says we are at 821 but my credit union told me more recently that it is 859. The kid said he'd never seen one that high.

All we do is pay our bills and keep no balance on the credit card.

Real, base FICO only runs to 850. Anything over that is some industry specific thing (up to 900?), not what this average score is based on.

Last I checked I was over 800, I don't think I have done anything particularly special or difficult to get that score. Is it people without established credit that bring the averages down?

Holy balls Batman........then again I know people who take lavish vacations and buy new cars regularly and I suspect they are right in that bracket so I'm not surprised
