I will try to respond to your question with a mention @
or if you need me, PM or @ me.

---

Number one things you should do to your kia

Change oil every 4000 miles or 6 months, or 3000 miles or 6 months if you have a turbo engine, most likely you fall under severe driving conditions so you can't go the full 8000 or 1 year, just change it, or bad things can happen.

Change your trans fluid every "60k severe" to "100k normal" with oem fluid, DCT and old school manuals are 75k, I don't care what the manual says, ignore it, i have seen to much shit first hand, "lifetime fluid is bullshit"

Differentials and PTUs vary a bit but 75k is a good rounded off number.

We ABSOLUTELY HATE aftermarket remote starts, i cant say for other manufactures, but are systems are sensitive anytime you tap in to something that was not designed to have any more strain on it, they can fuck up so much stuff its crazy, dash clusters, radios, power locks, freaking engine control problems, list goes on, OEM remote start or bust.

For god sakes if you're going to buy a Kia and you want one with the sunroof buy one with the sunroof and don't make some aftermarket company install one

For whatever it's worth, I recently spent some time in the Hyundai plant in Alabama for work. They build a couple engine lines for the Kia plant near by.

I was very impressed with the assembly line and the knowledge of the workers there.

(I'm .gov, not affiliated with the company).

reliable? enough so to have a 10 year 100k mile power train warranty

cheap yes, engines are primitive compared to competitors, we do not have any Variable valve lift tech, we only have variable valve timing, so no VTECH KICK IN action

The 3.8 Lambda circa 2007/8 was a potentially very good engine, but crippled by totally defective timing chain tensioners.

Has KIA learned their lesson, and brought enough Japanese designers over on the boat, or hired German engineers, to unfuck themselves? (Never mind those KIA engines that had crank bolts fail and the engines were wrecked.)

Can they make an engine today that is not a grenade and a complete liability?

the old lambda had some issues..., they were alot of new stuff for KIA and Hyundai to do on there own, now they are fine, but every once in a while on the newer lambda 2 engines a oil pressure switch will fail and spit oil in the  valley below the intake and make a mess on your floor, a big mess.

I'm 64.  I bought a new 2012 Kia Soul in October of 2011.  I now have 25.3K miles on it.  Will this Kia Soul last me until I'm 100 and ready to buy my mid-life crisis Corvette and finally old enough to have to step down to a low-performance bike like a Harley?

So far it's been a decent little car.

What should I be looking for in terms of stuff that will be breaking soon?
