Smith & Wesson Makes A Bad "Sell-Out" Deal Worse
 All gun owners should now know of the Smith & Wesson "sell-out" deal with the Clinton administration. The agreement brought gun control to gun consumers by a legal agreement, instead of an act of Congress. The details of this backdoor wave of gun control can be seen at the link, at the very bottom of this page.
 Even though the S&W plant is idle & sales of their firearms are 25% below the industry average for 2000, they have decided to add new gun control measures to their agreement. Many know of S&W signing an agreement with the city of Boston, but few know of the new dangerous provisions. To begin, S&W has raised the standards for a mandatory second serial number on firearms, which will raise the price of the guns. What, the government doesn't trust you so much they need two serial numbers on your gun? The company also agreed to dedicate a much larger share of revenue to the development of "smart-gun" technology, such costs will also be passed on to consumers. Nice to know your money will be spent on developing anti-gun technology that does not work. Finally, they have agreed to have a "manufacturing compliance liaison" to represent the anti-gun cities. This means that representatives of the anti-gun cities will have an active hand on how guns are made at S&W. Do you want your guns being made under the direction of an anti-gunner? Please continue the S&W boycott. It is clear that the company has not changed its anti-gun stance, even with their new CEO. (2/2/01)

Personally I'd like to see S&W eat it, that way some other company can buy them out or atleast all of their tooling, and continue producing S&W type guns but without the nonsense corprate policies that are currently killing S&W.

The SW sellout is a perfect example of the evils of foreign ownership of US companies. The Brits who own SW were obviously on board with the gun sellout "why, old chap, it's only sensible,eh wot?" Well what do you expect from a country that outlawed guns and really proved the old NRA slogan that "when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns". If the Brit owners weren't so blindly socialist pc stupid, they would have realized the SW bankruptcy (due to outrage of US consumers) was the ultimate goal - if all the manufacturers go belly up, then the anti's have accomplished their purpose, haven't they?

I was on glocktalk today posting about Kimber models (no, no one flamed me!), and some of the guys said Kimber uses S&W parts, so I should look at Springfield 1911's instead (many of which are built in Brazil). After looking at Springfield and reading good reviews about them, I think this is the company I will go with. I sure wish Kimber would find a new supplier.

Go with Kimber, sorry but Springfield has some issues when it comes to the 1911.  I'll see if I can get my buddy to post here about the headaches he had trying to get Springfield to service his 1911 and the lengthy amount of time it took.

Everything I've seen up to date suggest that I go with Kimber over Springfield.  Fit, finish, reliability, Kimber gets my vote.  Last I heard most of the internals in Kimber were Chip McCormick parts.

What parts supposedly are supplied by Smith&Wesson?

Theres a local gunshop that is a autherized S&W dealer needless to say he is not doing very well he has very few guns.The only thing that keeps him floating is he also sells fishing and other sporting goods

Kimber buys there frames from S&W. At the SHOT show this year they released a statement concerning that very subject.
I Love my Springy 1911A1 loaded. Good basic 1911 with enough extras on it to satisfy most.

Local gun shops in the two towns near me in Massachusetts stock S&W as well as used, reconditioned handguns. The S&W stuff sits in its own cases gathering dust- nobody will touch it, exc. for cops. Everybody is looking for recond. Berettas, Glocks, Sigs, anything but new S&W, as the new law makes it almost impossible to bring in any handgun -new or used- into MA that wasn't already in MA by sometime in 1998, or, been found "compliant" by the state. The state still has no testing lab, and the law's been in effect for over two years. The State just tells the manufacturers, go ahead, ship it to MA- if it's not compliant, we'll let you know- by suing you, the shop and the buyer.... bastards....:^(

too bad for S&W,... i have a pre-agreement 4006, and was thinking of getting more S&W, but since the agreement, have never thought of picking up a new one.

Always wanted a 610 10mm, but ....... I guess if I find one used, since they all ready made cash on the original sale.

Nearly had one....but was too late.  A 98% used 610.....$425.  (Only the new 4" barrel is now avail, no more 6")
