I'd shoot what it was designed for, a 220 grain round nose at 2000 fps. It doesn't sound all that exciting, but I've personally whacked enough critters with that load to know that it is deadly effective on up to elk size beasties, within it's range limitations...200 yards or so.
Hornady still makes a 220 RN, but I'd advise stocking up as it may not last much longer.
Cast bullets are always an option, and indeed may be the best option for Krag rifles, as their bore diameter often varied rather dramatically, and a well fitted cast bullet may shoot better than an undersized jacketed bullet.
