Can't tell from the pics if it's a slick side, or if the casting is there to install the FA and DC. Guessing slick side tho.

And really not a bad price since cloners will pay damn near $500 for a complete "M4 Carbine" colt lower. Sell lower keep upper, add a $3 dust cover and $10 forward assist throw on a PSA blem and you can be into a complete AR for like $200 after you sell the lower. |

FA and dust cover can be added.
Colt just had extra butt plugs laying around (#1 selling item for their fanbois) so they used them instead of actual forward assist mechanisms. |

I'm not seeing a problem. Add the FA and dust cover - *BOOM* - you now have a genuiune Colt without the goofy M4 barrel for a pretty good price.

Wonder if they also skipped all the Q/C checks that the LE models supposedly get. I question whether the LE models even get them. The military contract specs might call for MPI testing every bolt, and they may use the same bolts for the LE versions, but each and every single line item and check off? In some cases I suspect things get batch tested and then go on the gun. As said it's not a chromed bore - do they say it's button rifled or hammerforged? Nitrided? S&W offered hammer forged nitrided in the early runs of their AR - same pricing. It has a Colt roll mark. It's a Colt. Sorry if you disagree, but "Colt" means it's not going to be called "almost a Colt" if introduced as evidence in a court trial. It's specious to suggest otherwise. Now, if the guy is trying to make a point that this rifle isn't an M4 compliant 6920 well who said they were? Colt isn't making that claim. Much ado about nothing. Enjoy your Colts. Colt owners? Lump it. You just got sold out for a price, you have to move up to a Noveske or FN now.

Not a bad deal. Pull the BCG and sell the upper for $200 and you just got a $259 M4's marked colt lower and a $100 colt BCG. Perfect for the MK18 clone guys. It's essentially a 6721 without a few small parts.

It is the original Colt Expanse rifle, made to compete with the likes of the M&P Sport and Ruger 556. It's a pure Colt, no like on the Competition Rifle.
The Expanse 2 has the port cover and forward assist. I'm thinking the Expanse 1 is heading out of production to be replaced with the Expanse 2. Neither is chromed lined but many people (especially at the entry level price point) don't care. Its GTG. |
