One thing I don't understand about snake boots is why they have so many insulated versions of them

If it's so cold that you need insulated boots to keep your feet warm then the temperature is too cold for snakes to strike you. Am I mistaken? I have uninsulated boots which I wear frequently here in South Florida and even down in the 40's my feet never felt cold. On morning hunts if the temperature is in the 40's I usually don't wear snake boots as snakes will be too lethargic to strike at such temperature. So why do you need snake boots when it's cold?

Almost stepped on a rattlesnake when it was hovering just about freezing. He was sunning himself on some gravel.

I think that a rattler wont go down in a gopher hole till its below 40. My pointer used to find them out in the open coiled up tight when it was in the low 40's. I know they are very docile this time of year, but if you kick him or step on him, he's going to bite you, that's what they do. im still wearing my snake boots walking to my stand before daylight now when its above 39 deg. I have a 15min walk though the timber to my stand and we have killed some big diamond backs in there. I also think that they could bite me above the boot which gives me the willies...

Lived in the jungle and moved some serious venomous snakes and still never felt the need. I also think it is interesting that backpackers and "non-sportsman" outdoor enthusiast never wear any either despite, as a whole, spending much more time in backcountry and remote locations. Just my observations.

Terrain.

I no longer wear them, to big a pain in the ass, but when I was young, and a hardcore hunter, I spent the majority of my time humping where you couldn't see your feet; ass deep in a swamp, overgrown thickets, overgrown fields, deep in the thick and nasty, going to where the big ones live.

Not being able to see the ground you are walking on in a snake infested swamp in the dark will change your perspective.

I doubt your average hiker spends a lot of time off trail, in the dark.

Now days, I hunt nice spots that are easy walking, not as important to me whether I kill a monster buck or not, I just want a relaxing day in the woods, so not much worry about snakes, I can walk around them.

I spent some time in the Colombia, the Amazon, and Panama, and truthfully, at least the part I saw, Florida was tougher terrain.

I see snake boots as a benefit depending on where you live/hunt/hike etc. Texas brush country: I'll take them

Been around instances where they proved beneficial.

Hog Hunting at night, living and hunting in TX =yes for me
Sitting in a fucking hunting lodge and doing shots until dawn, but decked out in your Browning best=I'll pass

Saturday a local bbq joint owner found 11 rattlers in his storm shelter. he made a video of them being removed from the shelter. it was very cold here (below 20) and they were not frozen.

Isn't it odd that the "solution" to every fucking "problem" is a fine, a tax, or a penalty ......... all of which go into the coffers of the state.

(the state being the gubbernment, be it town, city, county, state or federal)
