Scooped up a good running, Makita/Dolmar 6400 (64cc) former rental from Home Depot for $268 out the door.  $6 of new clutch springs later and she's perfect!

Here she is.  Already slapped Stihl non-safety chain on her.Attachment Attached File

Hope you have good luck with it.  I worked at a HD that had a rental center, the power tools were used and abused by people but were well maintained.  The chain saws got new chains after almost every rental.

Must be a regional thing, our HDs only deal with Echos. Don't think I've ever seen a Dolmer/ Makita.

I checked it out pretty well, it's fine.  Runs great, already using it.  I hope to someday convert it to a 7900.

Dolmar is one of the oldest chainsaw brands in the world.  Their 42cc and larger saws are all made in Germany.  Makita owns Dolmar but simply rebadged Dolmar saws as their own.  With a Dolmar saw, you are getting a top notch German quality pro-grade saw at a large discount compared to equivalent Stihls and Huskys.

Nice!!!

They are heavy for what they are, but dead nuts reliable and overbuilt.

Are you going to slap a 7901 top end on it?

Someday...once I get the money, it's a no brainer. The HD air filter kit is crazy expensive.

Yeah, they don't give them away, but they can be found here and there at a discount or taken off a 'sploded project.

If you're gonna spend the $$$, shipping the thing off to Mastermind for a deep massage and conversion is worth the extra couple hundred.
Randy's got the 7900/7901 sweet spot down, and they come back pulling like a freight train under the curve, and as smooth as silk. Dog in and heave all you want, it just bites more.

Ditto, a Masterminded saw screams yet remains reliable.  Go check him out on arboristsite.com

I'm all over arboristsite and opeforum, prefer the latter.

Drove past a neighbor's place that has had a huge tree down across their driveway (it's cut up to allow to access to the driveway but otherwise left where it fell) and said tree has been there for a coupla months, I plan to drop by and ask them if I may cut up and harvest the main tree for firewood.

Geniusfest.

Annual GTG of CAD suffering chainsaw loons,Modders, timber savages, and woods hippies from the region as well as internationally, in Genius's(He's a member here) back 40 woods/Range.

Saws and parts get swapped. Cants get cut to compare times, A Hog or two and maybe 30 Chickens hit the smoker.

Definitive Dave shows up with a rented truck half full of goodies to hand out, sponsors donate stuff, folks run others saws to compare.
It's a social event and excuse to eat too damn much, while playing with all kinds of saws and talking shit.

Should be a 2016 thread over on OPE, and Sawhawgz.

Thread is relevant to my interests, even though my only saw is this one.
EGO 14" chainsaw

What exactly do the mastermind saws do that mine does not?

I like mine but I know it's only for small trees, and I need at least two batteries so I can use one while the other charges. That aside, it's good for me.

That's kinda like asking what a .22 single shot does compared to an AR.

If you're happy, no need to worry.  In your situation and wanting more power plus not wanting to be tied to batteries, I'd just get a Dolmar 421.  I have one. It's amazing.
