You can abundantly arm the US armed services with any 4 pieces of equipment as WWII breaks out, but those items can only be US Issue, from a period of WWII itself (ending Sept. 2, 1945)...no further, excluding nukes (cause that takes the fun out of it).

So, what 4 items make the biggest impact to hasten the end of the war with us victorious?

Here's my 4:

F8F Bearcat for the Navy, fighter dominance right out of the gate, arguably good enough to match/beat anything the Germans put into the air during the whole war too...so maybe the US Army Air Corps might want a few.

B29 Superfortress. Big whoopass with some F8F's flying escort? Have fun with that, Berlin.

M26 Pershing with the T15E1 gun (Super Pershing). Rommel, schmommel.

Mk16 Torpedo. Costly, but a good performer with range...would have been a game changer early in the war against enemy ships/cargo.

The extra 600 mile range for a P-51 will take her 300 miles deeper into Germany and the Balkans.  That offsets the performance gain of the bearcat in climb rate and the Mustang has a higher service ceiling.

Interesting to contemplate Superfortresses over Europe though.  ETA:  but that extra 1000 mile range is going to do little or nothing over Europe.  She lacks noise guns and an ME-109 or FW-190 can still get approve a Superfortress.

48 Iowa Class Battle ships - one for each state in the Union at the time, because 'Merca and battleships !11!!!!

With that out of the way, my votes aren't too far off and have one for each type of combat:

Ship -  Essex Class Carrier
Tank - M26 (as noted by the OP)
Aircraft - If I could go with just one... probably the P47 Thunderbolt, aka the "jug."    This wasn't the "best" but thinking about overall versatility, especially if you had the other weapons in the group, it could certainly be used (in quantity) to be effective in ground attack and air to air combat.
Infantry - M1 Garand, as it is the greatest battle implement ever devised!

Release the VT fuse for use a lot earlier.
The German 88mm crews would not be so cocky and have so many barrel bands from tank kills.

Divert more diesel engines from the navy to the army so the tanks would have diesel onboard rather than gasoline.

adopt the de Havilland Mosquito for multiple roles for both Atlantic & Pacific. simplify supply chains to one aircraft

mobilize more black soldiers and create entire black regiments of artillery, combat engineers, and transportation; segregate to keep dissension in the ranks down due to racism but still get maximum use out of every American

As far as calibers, have the Garand use a 20 round box mag with the .276 Pederson.
Convert to 9mm, goto the Browning HiPower 9mm and British Sten gun. Commonality across the board/theater/allies on pistols and SMG's.

More subs to surround every port of our enemies to sink every ship.

M1941 Johnson Light Machine Gun

Springfield T20E2 instead of the Garand. The T20E2 fixed the issues that existed in the T20

Perhaps more radar stations in Hawaii, or at least competent people to interpret signals. If we had maybe Pearl might
have gone a little differently and thus the war

Winner, if it is the Remington design with the impeder.  The Springfield designed one had an issue with being unreliable as the bolt was too fast and would not feed reliably from the magazine.   One solution was to increase the spring strength on the BAR magazine, but that would make those magazines incompatible with the BAR. The Springfield solution was to lengthen the receiver by 1/4" to give it more travel time and thus, allow the magazine to push up a cartridge in time for the bolt to pick up a fresh cartridge. Remington's solution was to use the standard receiver but to put an impeder in the recoil spring to delay the unlocking, thus slowing the bolt down enough for the magazine to feed it.

Proximity Fuse for AA shells

P-51D Mustangs for AAF and F-8 Bearcat for USN/USMC

M-4 Sherman Firefly.  Reliable tank with a gun that will take on any German vehicle.

Yes, but the OP said "when war breaks out." I figure being able to park a few carriers off the coast of France with round the clock P61/B29 operations from ground locations could destroy Germany at night. Likewise, we could've gone through Siberia and China, pushed Japan out of China and beat the hell out of them from China.

You send the B-29s WITH the latest mod'd Wright 3350 engines WITH a load no other bomber can touch WITH P-51 fighter/escort.  Big Fucking Difference.

It took the war and time to work out the kinks in the W 3350 engine and it was chosen for the A-1 Skyraider.  That is fucking correct. One B-29 engine, mod'd some moar of course, in this:

With 2 drop tanks, IIRC, the F8F could get around 1,900 miles...that's only 150 total less than the P51D. Remember, I'm talking STARTING the war with it, too, what's Germany got in 1941 that's gonna swat down Bearcats and B29's?
