Gobots lose.

Transformers VS Gobots Part 1

Gobots sucked, imo.  They were the cheap leftover crap you got when your mom and dad were lazy and didn't get to Toys R Us or Children's Palace in time to get Transformers.

Gobots are the store brand.

Cheap knockoffs

I kind of liked them, the cartoon wasn't too bad and the toys didn't have a lot of parts to break or lose.  Yeah they were a knockoff, but still not bad.

ETA: Wait a minute, GoBots came out in 1983 and Transformers came out in 1984?

The Super Gobots were pretty cool. I had the tank, the black porsche and the silver porsche.

While they weren't as neat as the transformers, at least they didn't require a bunch of detachable small parts to transform. And those Super Gobots had rubber tires, detailed interiors, metal bodies and other features like transformers had.

One of my most vivid Christmas memories was the time a received Jetfire. Every kid of the block was jealous.

Gobots, they go great with that set of Megablocks, and the perpetual flaming bag of shit on your porch from some "random" neighborhood miscreant.

But hey, at least little Timmy is much more excited about walking the dog, so there's that.

It was ok to play with gobots, so long as you knew and understood that you would have your but kicked after school by the kids who played with transformers, as they knew that as soon as they was done beating up the gobots kids they would get a beat down from the GI Joe kids.

Gobots were what you watched if Transformers wasn't on TV (back when you had NO choice lol)

Yes they SUCKED.   The show sucked, the toys sucked,  lol.

My brother got him that year and literally just stopped opening gifts and played with it for the next hour or so.  He ended up getting Jetfire and Soundwave that year.

I guess my mom just happened to be at Children's Palace in Fort Wayne when they were unloading the truck and putting stock out or something.

I LOVED that toy with a passion....especially since it was Rick Hunter's Veritech from ROBOTECH the only cartoon to take the top spot from Transformers....I still have an OLD well used one sitting around hehe.

At my school Transformers ruled all. We kicked sand in the face of the GI Joe kids and the Gobot kids. And we all kicked sand on the He-man freaks. Power of grey skull my ass.

What about the GI Joe guys with tier 1 stubble?

My brother and I were pretty far apart so I had all the 70s toys and he had more of the 80s toys.

Even in the GoBots cartoon, you still saw the robot's faces when they transformed into shopping carts or basketball hoops or whatever other retarded fucking thing they had them transform into.

They didn't even try.

I can't remember if it was that same year or not but my brother got Shockwave. No doubt, it was cool. Those two transformers were on a different level. Truly tier 1 shit. Still, I was always a little uncomfortable with Shockwave in the gun form. Sorta broke through the 4th wall. It was a common debate in our house. "Who's holding him? Did you just enter the cartoon? He can be a gun if he wants but you better find another transformer to hold him or else he's just gonna lay there while Jetfire bombs him."

He's cleaned up his act in the last few years. Every time my daughter grabs him out of the curio cabinet it's a butt clenching affair. "Please don't break it" "let me help NO NOOOO" " GOD FUCKING DAMMIT!!"

Then I snatch it away from from her. Play with your own damn toys, jet fire is mine.

I remember when I received Shock Wave for a present and my parents had purchased it from JC Pennys (they actually had a toy section in the early 80s). We returned him shortly thereafter on account of his sound effects having failed. I never got another one in its place.

Diaclone and Microchange predate Gobots.  Transformers was just a new storyline for older toys.  Ever wonder why all the old toys had seats that seemed like little people should be in them?  That's because they were designed for that!

That being said, I had a sweet ass double barrel Gobot shotgun that took the old caps.
