I drove an 03 X package today. I am trying to convince the wife, and myself. I need support. Pics please. If I am not careful I will end up with an Accord [:(]

The first time you take her momma some groceries after it snows she'll, er, uh, uhm, "thank you" for getting it.
Whatever you do, don't get a 4 cylinder. Get the 4.0L straight 6. |
|
As I'll soon be getting a new vehicle, I should check out the X package. Solid doors or half with flaps?
TS Edited to ask, What are they asking for that X package? |

I have three!
A 1990 Cherokee, a 1992 Cherokee Sport, and a 1997 Grand Cherokee! Love 'em all! Eric The(JeepIsAllAmerican!)Hun[>]:)] |

We bought a 2002 Liberty Sport, and it was a huge piece of crap. The injectors had to be replaced at 20k miles (under warranty), the air went out (under warrnaty), the dome light came on and off whenever it wanted to (under warranty), and it always pulled to the left (never did figure out why). We had it for 8 months and it was in the shop for 44 days during that time. we traded it in a month ago on an Xterra. It is great, feels more like a truck. The Liberty was unreliable and left me with a bad impression of the newer Jeeps. I had a cj7 and it was awesome. not the Liberty.

ps. The accord however won't pull your boat through the mud on the way to the fishin' hole.....

Brother, get one you will never look back, it is a Jeep thing. I own three also, 2 Grand Cherokees, and one TJ, (that is a Wrangler for you newbies to the Jeep thing.)

1975 CJ-5. JUST out of the paint booth. Fiberglass tub, 258 inline 6. Made by a company called "AMC"....
No carpet, no XM satellite radio, no lumbar support, no padded dash, no airbags,... Pics soon! |

I have had a 2002 Liberty Limited V6 for over 24,000 miles and it has been flawless. For the most hardcore rock crawling, you want a Wrangler, but for almost anything else the Liberty will get you there. In comfort. I read several Liberty BB's and I have never seen anyone with all the problems that psychworker describes. |
|
Older XJ Cherokee here. Tough, reliable little box, light enough not to bury itself and powerful enough to pull. Mrs Ops loves it and won't let me play with it. Ops

Here's mine, right after I got it, this time last year:
All I've done to it so far is put on the Mopar factory bug deflector and got a Mopar factory hardtop for it, for winter. Summer, the hard top comes off and the soft top goes back on. It's a 20-30 minute job to swap tops, if you have someone to help you with it. All you'll need them to do is help you lift the (not so heavy) hard top off and move it to wherever. The rest is a one-person job. Yah, as stated before, get the 4.0L I6, NOT the 4-cylinder. It's got plenty of guts, don't get me wrong, but that 4 cylinder is useless for anything except for driving around in a 1 horse town. The second you get near a highway, you'll need that 6 cylinder. ESPECIALLY if you get it with an automatic tranny. My entire family has pretty much always had a jeep, starting with a Cherokee (first people in my town to get one of those when it was introduced), Grand Wagoneers, Grand Cherokees, Wranglers..now, family-wise, we have a Liberty (Dad) and a Wrangler (me). I never shoulda sold my first Wrangler...this is it's replacement, and my atonement for that collosal mistake. |
|
98 XJ (cherokee) here. The thing rocks, unfreekin' stopable. Not to mention its a towing machine, a 3200# vehicle rated for 5000#. Thats 156% of it's own weight. You can almost hear it's spheres clanging together when it's pulling a trailer up to speed, that 4.0 is a torquey (<- is that a word) engine. I love it.
|
|
'94 Wrangler here. I used to have a '79 CJ7 that I was rebuilding but I needed some money and had to sell it.[>(] I'm planning on getting another CJ or a Willys some day.
|
|
1980 CJ 7 here, not real fancy but will get in, and more importantly out of pretty much anywhere.
|
|
I had a 79 CJ7 and now a 92 Cherokee Laredo w/ 204K miles and still going strong![:D] |

Had mine for almmost 2 months now. Absolutley love it.

2002 Wrangler here. Got it just about a year ago.
If you are looking at the X version, you don't even have to think about the 4 cyl version. For me, I do have the 4 cyl/5 speed manual and don't have a problem. I drive it every day to work (40 min each way). When I drive on the highway, I agree that it could use more power, but I can live with it. I just can't keep up with the guys who go 20mph over the limit, but I can stay the limit. I live in Illinois and we've had an average winter, but I didn't have any problems with the softtop. But it was incredible having the option for 4wd when the snow was deep. Wrangler Page Edited to add: I totally love driving my Jeep. |

GREAT Jeep forum here :
http://jeepsunlimited.com/ '98 Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited Great ride, goes anywhere, never had a problem |

1999 Wrangler Sport
Manual Transmission Soft Top Full Doors 30x9.5" Goodrich GS-A tires Jeeps are noisy, they suck down gas, and they aren't the fastest thing in the world...I WOULDN'T TRADE MINE FOR THE WORLD!!! [:D] |

Thanks guys, glad to hear the positive responses. I tell ya I sure would like the Rubicon if I could swing it. Great pics by the way.
|
|
79 CJ5. 258 straight six with the 4 speed with granny gear. No, it aint for sale!
|
|
SOLD MINE! bought a cherokee freedom.
With the wrangler you can't haul shit out to the hills! Awesome 4X4, but not for a shooter with gongs to haul. Love my cherokee though! |
|
Oh, one more thing, before you take the plunge...Wranglers are horribly customizable. Bearing this in mind, remember what jeep stands for when you go to buy it:
Just Empty Every Pocket You can accessorize your Jeep as much as you can accessorize an AR. (And it'll suck just as much income, too! [:)]) |

ok guys, i just got a great offer on a 4wd toyota tacoma. i am begining to lean that way. help before its too late!
|
|
Do the top and doors come off the Tacoma?
Didn't think so. Go with the Wrangler , I'm on my second one and can't even imagine not owning a Jeep |
|
1999 Grand Cherokee
Trim package: Limited 4x4 with Quadra Drive 4.7L V8 Corners well, handles more like a sports car than an SUV and has the accelleration too. Won't get stuck in HORRIBLE MUD SITUATIONS. Just ask the DFW crew who was at the Hun Farm over Memorial Weekend! Had a blast driving in the mud that time! Also has Wrangler MT/Rs on it. Makes the Jeep look much better than the All-Terrains. |
|
1996 Grand Cherokee..love it. Does what I want it to do...no problems except the brakes and rotors. I've had to replace them twice in 60,000 miles.
Other than the brakes..it's a Cadillac with 4x4. Love it..love it. |

00 Cherokee Sport
I love mine. Plenty of get-up-and-go! Next one would be a Cherokee too if they still made them. Plan is to get a Wrangler in the next few years. I fell in love after driving one when I was 16 and never forgot it (sniff, wipes tear). |

I am on my thrid
2003 Grand Cheroke V8 But, me next ride will be a Toyota 4 Runner V8 [peep] |

I tried to scratch the Jeep itch by buying a Nissan Pathfinder in 1992. Great truck (until it rusted away) but now that I have the Jeep, I wish I had gotten it sooner. There's nothing like a Jeep and the japanese trucks, while nice, don't even come close. Really. |

Damn I am kinda itchy, but those Toyotas are so ......here it comes............practical.....

Woohoo! I got one. 4X4 Toyota Tacoma extended cab [:D] [banana][banana][banana]

I know I will get flamed and laughed out of the room. but I have to ask so here goes. With the heat in north Texas, I have aslways wondered how the air conditioner in a cj with a hard top worked. Is it efficient enough to be of a value, or is it a joke? Also, is the six powerful to pull a small aluminum bass boat? .. fullclip |

I've got a 2003 Grand Cherokee Limited, love it
but should have gotta the V8, my only complaint. Handle's and rides great! The wife loves it as well. |

Also, is the six powerful to pull a small aluminum bass boat? .. fullclip View Quote I have the soft top on mine, and with our lovely humid FL heat, my AC works just fine. Keeps me plenty cool inside. Actually, its one of the colder ac's I have ever had. That said, I run with ar least my front windows rolled down most of the time. The 6 has more than enough power to pull it, the problem one runs into is the weight and length. With the very short wheelbase of a Jeep (TJ's, YJ's, & CJ's), its not safe to pull a very heavy or long load. You run the risk of either it getting very loose in the rear and fishtailing bad causing you to wreck, or, in a panic stop, it will cause you to jacknife pretty easily. About 2000 lbs is the safe load. I have read/seen folks do more, but it is a tad risky. It will however pull small untility (bugout) trailers perfectly. |

94 Grand Cherokee Laredo.....2 1/2 years later I still love driving it!!!
|
|
I have always wanted a Jeep. My present 4x4 is a 99 Tacoma because of that P word. Once I retire, the Jeep will be my rig.

2001 XJ 60th anniversary (mine) and 2001 WJ (wife's). Very satisfied with both.

2002 Wrangler X Patriot Blue
Just get it, you will not regret it. My wife and I still get a shit-eatin grin when we drive around with the top down. Non Jeep owners just look with envy. Tim |
