Saw this on one of those crime tv shows and I am damn curious to see if it would work.

How could I get the meat frozen enough to make it hard enough as to it not breaking up in the barrel or flight?

I am theorizing here in believing that extra lean burger would work better vs. 22% fat due to the fat content.

I only plan on making a couple and using a bullet mold in .45 acp 230gr to complete this experiment.

Is this crazy and will my curiosity get the best of me?

Stupidest thing I've ever heard.  The powder detonation in the gun would disintegrate the meat-bullet.  I'd bet anything on that.

Closest thing I've heard to this are Australian gangbangers who use frozen oranges as lethal projectiles in PVC potato cannons.

Ummmmm, I may just be stupid but what would the point be?

I've always cast mine out of lead.

I eat hamburger.  Shoot lead.

If you can get your hands on some liquid nitrogen you will get it frozen hard enough theoreticly this can work. It's the same as the ice bullet.

keeping that small hunk of meat in contact with the chamber would defrost it damn quick

My great grandpa used to load 38 casings with wax. He said it was for prowlers etc.. I was just a kid, but when I started shooting more I always wondered if the wax would melt when fired. He said it would go through a regular newspaper. If you did a meat bullet I would guess you would have to freez the intended firearm as well so it wouldn't thaw the bullet out to quickly, same for your dies, & brass. And then the friction, & powder burning might still thaw it out to quickly to ever work.

I think you'd need liquid N2 to do this.  Mold, freeze, load, refreeze, and keep the bullet submerged in N2 until ready to shoot.  I'd think the ice bullet thing would work better, if you could figure out a way to keep it from shattering on ignition.

Could somebody explain why you would want or need a frozen bullet to me? I know to shoot someone obviously, but why a frozen bullet. Just seems stupid to me.

I don't "need" a frozen bullt and I don't plan on marketing 22% fat self defense rounds.

I want to see if it will work.

It's the curious person in me that wants to see it work.

I think the big prblem would be sizing the bullet. Depending on the saturation of the meat, the bullet could expand up to 5% when frozen, and may not fit in the case. I suppose you could cast the bullet, freeze it, then size it and freeze it again.

There is the consideration that the bullet will be very low density compared to lead. Since "meat" in general is not homogeneous, the center of gravity may not be in the geometric centroid of the bullet, so it will not likely be too stable in flight. Also, with the low weight, the bullet, if it stays intact, may not be carrying enough energy at the point of impact to penetrate anything. Ugh. A meat-splat bullet.

I don't see any special problems with the basic concept, but it will definitely take some experimentation to perfect. If you are able to make it work, the groundwork is laid for all manner of body fluid and semi-fluid bullets. Blood bullets, poop bullets, toe-jam bullets, earwax bullets, booger bullets ... If you want to stick to food, you could try Spam, candy, gum, black-eyed peas, blueberries, Grape Nuts, peanut butter.

What do you clean your barrel with afterward? A-1 Steak Sauce? Or do what I do after eating a steak: soak up the juice with some bread!

I used to make those.  The trick is to resize a .38 case, then press it down on some wax about 1/2 inch thick.

Then you prime the case.  You do that last so that air pressure doesn't push the wax bullet out of the case.

They were actually pretty accurate at short range.  Mine would put a dent or hole in cardboard.  I bet you could kill a rat with one.

Bill Jordan used to put on shooting exhibitions with wax bullets.  If you're too young to know who Bill Jordan was, then never mind.

I think it might be easier to experiment with an ice bullet first. You could use a lead bullet mold as an ice cube tray to make some rounds. You need to keep them frozen as you load them into the shell casings which requires your reloading room and equipment to be close to freezing temps. After that you need to load the gun that has been chilled and take it out to shoot without your projectile melting.

Now, i now when a 45 round is fired it is hot enough to melt lead off the base of the bullet. Lead melts around what, 250 degrees? How hot is ignition of a primmer and poweder in a .45 ACP case? I'm sure it is hot enough to melt an ice cube before it gets out of the barrel. That is assuming that the ice bullet isn't blown apart or shattered from the impulse of the burning powder.

I think using burger would be even more difficult to form, chamber and shoot. I'd suggest using a small all beef steak cube. Good luck.  [rolleyes]

If you get this to work, shoot your TV first.

i don't know much about meat bullets...sounds kind of gay to me. but whatever floats your pickle i guess.......

wax bullets on the other hand are easy to make. many fast draw competitors use them, since real bullets are too dangerous for fast drawing.

the best way is to open the flash hole a little bit, melt some parafin, and pour it into a tray or plate of somekind. about half an inch thick. when it is solid, but still warm, push the end of the case into the wax. after iot hardens completly then prime the case. pretty accurate at short distances. and hits as hard as a paintball i would think.

Let me get this straight:  you are worried that your meat isn't hard enough?  Try Viagra on it.[:D]

"Frozen Meat Bullet"

I think I accidentally stumbled upon a copy of that once in the Gay Eskimo porno section of my local video store.

I was looking for a Black Hawk Down, I swear!!!
