The economy was doing well because of what daddy Bush did.
Not what Klinton did. Now the economy is suffering for the changes Klinton made, and the biggest reason for the economy sucking right now was and still is that one terrorist attack, 9/11. Just think what a few more would do. And as far as who has more ass in the white house, your right, Klinton had more ass. |

Lets see...cut manpower in US Armed Forces by half maybe...so what's that? 2 million guys? Cleared out all those government posts for FOB/ Leftists/ Socialists/ Liberals ( Travel Office, FBI, DOJ, ect, ect, ect...). Gave China MFNS, so there went lotsa jobs. So he gave it a shot.
Good thing The Repubs took over in 94 to apply some fiscal discipline (don't know what happened to that concept now-a-days)because congress sets expenditures (Bill had nothing to do with the surplus other than getting a Republican Congress elected and benefited from it much as much as being POTUS during the Dot.com era). Got the Mega-Corporation/ Super State that Bush 41 started going good. We found out Clinton was a Serial rapist, consumate liar, and would sell out the US for his own personal gain (political donations) to a foreign country (China in case you are confused). FOund out he thought the White House was a Hotel and would rent rooms by the night for the right donations. Would bomb a foreign country to deflect attention away from his own foilables. Yeah, the good ole days... what did he do that was good again? Welcome to AR15 DUer. |

Eric The(Political)Hun[>]:)] View Quote The longest economic expansion in US history was fueled by many things. I personally don't think that Reagan's tax cut was very important in that expansion. Especially considering that Clinton raised them and the expansion kept going strong. While CLinton's tax increases may have won congress for the Repubs, it didn't seem to have an impact on the economic expansion. The myth that Reagan created the expansion is a nice thought that Repubs like to believe, but IMHO, it is a myth. I personally believe that the expansion was fueled by a massive rise in Total Factor of Productiviy (TFP), or that part of the GDP that is not either labor or capital. In essence, it was the critical mass of education, technological infrastructure and the wide spread adoption of such that fueled the expansion. Massive expenditures on Y2K helped to fuel this as well. I believe that the creation of the 'bubble' helped to perpetuate this phenomenon well past its natural demise. Anyway, books could be written on it and economists have lots of opinions. But the real problem is that politics always gets in the way of evaluating such things. The partisan nonsense that gets thrown around is detrimental to figuring out the economics of it. |

You are right, Clinton had some large ass in the White House.
Clinton's economics worked out OK. That's because his wife's aborted attempt at health care fell apart, and Clinton adopted Republican policies like the capital gaines tax cut, welfare reform, and NAFTA out of political expediency (except for NAFTA, which he seemed to really support). Too bad he messed up in forign policy and attacked the rights of Americans. |

Quoted: His economy was so much better than Bush's, and there were not nearly as many layoffs in the Clinton era. View Quote You sure about that? Do you remember 1993-94? The economy was not so good then, one reason that the Republicans won the Congress in 1994. The unemployment rate in 1993 was about 7 percent, and in 1994 it was about 6.1 percent, same as now. The recovery from recession during Clinton was painfully long, perhaps 3 years. Clinton also changed the way the unemployment rate was calculated so it would appear lower than it actually was.
