Action Channel had the original with Chuck Heston last night.

Their survival gear had one PISTOL with just 20 rounds! AAK!

What is the best compromise here in this situation? And you have a crew of 4, you and 3 others.

12ga shotgun can deal with large, dangerous animals with slugs, and kill birds and small game to eat with shot. But it and its ammo are large.

.22 LR is good for hunting, can carry lots of ammo-it could be years if ever before you are picked up again-but not very good for protection.

.223? Cant shoot birds (or can it?) but not much bigger than a .22. And if its a AR type can be fitted with a .22LR adaptor. Can be silenced.

I think M4 / M203 would be a wicked combo in a survival gun.

Who cares if you don't shoot birds on the fly? Long-eared rats (rabbits) are probably plentiful on the Ape Planet.

.410 saiga shotgun

Relativly small ammo compared to 12 guage.
Birds, small game, ect.
Rifled Slugs for dirty apes.

What is the standard Ape Killing load? I'm thinking the Alexander Arms .50Beowolf would drop most apes ;)

No guns, make friends with the apes by deceiving them.  You will survive much longer if you use their resources and teach them a few things about technology.  Become a god to the apes.  When the rescue ship finally shows up, jump on and nuke the planet from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.

What kind of rifles were those full-forestock Manlicher types that the apes were using in the movie Heat???

What gun did Al Pacino use in "Planet of the Apes"?

Al Pacino was clearly using a SOCOM edition, 357MM, Tactically advanced, thermal imaging, preban, bolt action fully automatic, AK-16 aught six machine assault pistol.  With bayonet, sniper style telescopic device, and tactical assault sling.
And a compass in the stock.

No doubt purchased from a 14-year-old terrorist who picked it up for $32 at a gun show without a background check.

We must close the "Americans being able to own a gun at all" loophole! It's for the ape children!

Flamethrower! It cooks the food you hunt as you hunt it! those apes would go up like dry pinetrees in a forest fire! The smell would probably be strong enough to knock out a chronic coke sniffer though...

Screw compact/carryable guns.
An AAAV powered by a tiny nuclear reactor.
I'd use the AAAV's cannon, as well as mount an M240.

Oh, and off the gun topic, a hot chick that can cook, and plenty of booze.

Any reason you have to settle for one gun?

If I had no idea about what type of animals were on the planet, I'd probably be inclinded to a .30 rifle of some sort.

But knowing my largest targets would probably be apes, I'd go with .223, so I could carry more ammo. And a 9 mm pistol (single action, a High Power, CZ-75, or SIG P-210). I like .45s (1911s), but w/o ammo resupply and limited ammo storage, I'd opt for 9mm.

I'd also like a .22 for harvesting small game.

I'll pass on wing shooting. This is a survival situation, not Sporting Clays (unless the apes are yuppie apes, in which case I want a sporting clays 28 ga and some golf clubs).

in the type of conditions portrayed in the
original Planet of the Apes movie, you would
need a very rugged gun like an AK47, something
so simple and rugged a monkey could learn how to field strip it.

A M1 Carbine. I think the ape guns were based on the same thing, it makes ammo supply easier.

Actually I would go sniper rifle, probably M1A. Those apes would have a hard ttime engaging out to 500 yards in those monkey suits.

In this situation, I would take an Enfield No 4 MK 1 with as much ammo as they would give me.

1. Simple and reliable bolt action design.
2. High power hard hitting cartridge.
3. 10-round magazine.
4. When out of ammo can be used as a club or crutch.

Give me a AR-10 with a 3.5-10x scope and a bunch of ammo and i would be eating ape steaks for a long time. would be good for sniping plus the occasional close encounter. one shot one kill and the ammo would last for some time, also use their weapons when possible to save the 308 for sniping. i know i can outshoot those DAMNED DIRTY APES!

You said i had a crew of four correct?...Well then...One guy would have a S.A.W M249...for when the monkeymen do the masse attack thing...The other 3 would have M4/M16 variations possibly with at least one man with an M203 attached...NV to keep the Nocternal Shits guessing...And Some Claymores so i can sleep at night....All these use 5.56/.223 and Standard AR mags so things dont get confusing and everyone can resupply each other....Im not really worried about small game for meals....Monkey is not that bad to eat, just a little stringy!......Btw all this applys only if this planet doesnt have a Dam AWB[LOL].................UNDERDOG
