Here in VA, beyond the cost of the gun itself:
$2 for the Insta Check, if buying from a dealer $0 if buying from a private party My Norinco Underfolder, has the same status as Billy Bobs Marlin .22 LR. There is no state firearms registration for anything except for Machine Guns. They have to be registered with the state, in addition to all the ATF stuff. |

I think I paid an application fee of $ 75 and some other fee, maybe for the background check or fingerprints, of $ 25. The financial trouble NY is in there will be a lot more of these little screw you fees coming.
Notaries in NY can only charge a very small fee, I don't remember how much, but only a couple of dollars, and you have to charge everyone if you are going to charge so I have never bothered charging for it. |

NYC just raised it's fingerprint fee today to $99, up from $74.
Someone has got to pay for their new computerized fingerprint system. |

$20 a year & renewable by mail in most counties here in Alabama. Better than the $50 fine for getting caught on an Alabama Interstate WITHOUT a pistol...

Is this for a carry permit, or just to buy?
In OK there is no extra cost to buy. For the carry permit: $100 application fee $25 to the Sheriff (fingerprinting) $10 for two passport photos $60 (or less) for CCW training. The permit is good for 5 years, renewal requires new photos and $100, but no more training or fingerprints. |

Not as of yet. And they way our legislature works (or doesn't) it's doubtfull that there will ever be a good CCW bill in Ohio. Still, one can walk into a gun shop, browse around, and if one so chooses, purchase a pistol on the spot, and walk out with it in the time it takes to make a phone call.

HKggnr, be thankful you don't live in the City of Nazi York:
Permit Fee = $255 (for 3 years) Fingerprints = $73 Photos = $7.50x2 = $15 Five round trips* to 1 Police Plaza (=$2 subway x 5 x 2) = $20 Grand total = $363. After that it's $85 per year to keep up your permit, renewed every third year. * Pick up application, drop off completed application, interview, pick up permit, check in first gun purchase. All trips are mandatory. |

This just another reason I am glad to be leaveing the NYCUSR (New York City Union of Socialist Repbulics aka Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, Manhattan, and Staten Island. Which is bordered by the Peoples Republic of New Jersey).
I move to the Louden/Fairfax County area of Virginia in about 3 weeks (I'll take what ever transfer I can get with my job). Even though I would have been happier to return to my native Florida; which is where all my toys are, since I can't have them up here, without obtaining the required permits. I wasn't into giving the city a list of things they might try to confiscate if they didn't like what I owned. |

Wife and I CCW class $60.00x2=$120.00 Permit Fee $100.00x2=$200.00 (good for 5 years) Total = $320.00 for 2 ($160.00 each) Permits in hands,11 days. Hey, we finally got CCW in Minnesota, not complaining. Down state the class fees are over $140.00 each. |

Kentucky: Nothing to buy a gun other than the actual cost. CCW is the cost of an 8 hour class (determined by the instructor, usually about $75) and $60 for a 5 year permit.

In North Carolina you need a $5.00 permit from the Sheriffs office to purchase a handgun. No permit is needed for long guns.

The application fee is set by the county and can vary greatly, in Oswego it was maybe 12 or 20 or something. The fingerprint and background check was $75 through the NYS troopers I believe, even if you actually have the prints taken by a town cop. I just heard on the radio last week that it is going up, maybe to $125 IIRC.
As for the photos, well what can you do? My buddy went to a photobooth at the mall for $5 for his pics and had a few left over, lol. The good news is once you get it, its only a couple of bucks to amend it with additional guns. NYS has no manditory waiting period and if there is any limit on the number guns bought at one time it must be more than two. So if I take the total cost, and divide it by the number of guns on my permit, it really it isn't so bad. By that logic, the more guns I buy the cheaper it will seem so I got to get shopping. |

What's a "pistol permit"?
We have a CCW ... carry conciled weapons permit that runs $50 or so. But if you carry open, you don't need squat. And now they are talking of going to no permits for anything kind of like Vermont. If you can own a gun, you can pack it any way you want... because you can! |

That's the fee for most of the counties I am aware of & for all of them close to me. I know it is cheaper in some - the state statute only specifies $1 & the rest is up to the individual county. (It ought to be standard statewide, IMO.) |

Well, todays the day after. Finally time to sit back and WAIT - 4 to 6 months. I certainly don't expect to run into any problems with the background check, unless its with the fingerprints "not being good enough" or such.
Have to say, the Deputies at the Schenectady Co. Sheriffs office were more than cordial and extremely helpful - giving our forms the once over while we were there to make sure everything was entered correctly. And as much as a pain it is to go through the 'process', the attitude of the Deputies ended it all on a good note. So, do I start making my Christmas list yet? [;)] Oh yeah, no charge on the Notary either - seems we had a fellow shooter who was happy to oblige. [:D] |

MA requires a LTC to possess and/or CCW, also required for long guns (FID OK for low-capacity long guns only) and ammo/ammo components (including spent .22LR cases)/mags.
LTC/FID: $25/4yrs (new budget scheduled to increase fee to $100/4yrs) 1st time only: class required (fee from $0 to $300 depending on instructor, etc.) Pictures: $3/4 (only need 2, but local photo booth gives you 4/$3) Wait: Generally 6wks to 3 months (law requires LTC/FID issued in 40 days but no penalty if they delay it and the process oftentimes delays it) Trips: Usually 2 or 3. Some PDs require an "interview" others don't Other BS: MA is "chief's discretion" (may issue) so it varies in the 351 cities/towns. [NOTE: Boston typically charges more and makes you jump through additional hoops, qualifying at their range, etc. but they are "just different"!] Purchases: NICS and out the door, no waiting periods. With LTC (with no restrictions) one can CCW essentially anywhere (except courthouses, schools, colleges and some gov't buildings that have gotten security conscious since 9/11). Yes, you can CCW in restaurants, bars, banks, USPO (if for "legal purposes" when you read actual Fed law, not just the sign on the wall). see [url]www.goal.org[/url] for details. |

Yes Aimless, actually require you to check the box listed "Carry Concealed" - Then write on a seperate line - Hunting and Target. The Schenectady Co. Judge will not issue sole Concealed carry permits, and your license will be issued as such - hunting and target. The local cops around here have never 'harrassed' anyone with a Schenectady issued permit while carrying as far as I know. |

Only type of 'permit' in FL is just to carry concealed. When I applied the first time, it was $125 for the application fee, $21 for the fingerprint processing, plus cost of class and a passport-quality photo. The permit was valid for three years, with fingerprints and photo every time. It has since changed. No more additional fingerprint processing, permit good for five years, and the renewal cost was reduced. Only thing you need to renew is a recent photo and $75 (I think).

I should see my CCW any day now. I paid a guy at my range $10 for the NRA basic pistol course; $50 for the permit fee. I think the notary was $2, and I shelled out about 6 bucks to make the required 4 copies of the training certificate and 3 copies of the notarized application.
They have this goofy machine that you pay a dollar to get a card, THEN you have to add copy fees to it. No one around to explain it, and the directions aren't clear...it was the biggest pain in the whole procedure lol. Best part was when the guy fingerprinting me asked what kind of gun I have, I chuckled and said, "what DON'T I have." hehehe. Then I mentioned I'd probably carry either a 9mm or .40. We had a nice discussion about Glocks .vs other stuff. It's been about 6 weeks, and they have 45 days to issue the permits, so I should have it directly. BTW, if anyone has the XD 9, I bought the FIST #8 from Gunner's Alley...very nice holster, fits like a glove. You could get it for any XD, the holsters are made to order. MUCH better than that POS Fobus I got. Lived and learned on that one lol. |

Ahh, just reading this thread pisses me off to no end.
I live in (and hate) the state of New York, and every year I debate whether or not I should apply for my permit. What stops me is one thing: not being able to carry concealed. The idea that I could be in some Mcdonalds somewhere (while my handgun is locked in my truck) while some crazy bastard is shooting up the place totally disgusts me. I can deal with the ridiculous fees (being a New Yorker, I am used to that) but I CAN'T deal with the "hunting and target shooting only" bullshit, and I have been told that in my county you do NOT want to get caught carrying. I'm not even allowed to protect myself and my family from the people this state can't put away in the first place. Fuck that, and fuck New York. If all of my family didn't live here, I would have long since left this shithole. |

A "pistol permit (or license)," at least here in Alabama, is the same thing as your "CCW." It's been called a pistol permit as long as I can remember (I've had one for 20 years) & certainly long before the "CCW" abbreviation came into the popularity it enjoys today. And yes, it is a permit for concealed carry (on your person or in a vehicle) - only LEOs can carry openly in public in Alabama (there are, of course, exceptions for "while you are on your own property," "in your place of business," etc.). There is no permit required here for purchase, ownership, having one in your home, etc. |
