Kimber. Outstanding weapons for the money. The Tactical II is probably close to what you want. Night sights and full size. You can use Wilson 8 round mags for an 8+1 configuration.
It's aluminum framed, though. Has anyone used these? Are they durable enough? |

The general consensus seems to be kimber for good reason. I was shopping for a 1911 myself until I got this crazy notion of changing careers. Anyhow, from my research I surmised that Kimber and Sprinfield are the gold standard. If you have a kimber and a colt side-by-side you will see that the kimber is by far the superior weapon. The action is so much smoother and the fit and finish is rock solid. The colt to me (flame suit on) felt loose like a toy. And what the hell is with the plastic trigger? True the colt is much cheaper and has name recognition, but who cares? I like my bushmaster just as well as I would love a colt if I had one. Same argument for the name. Also, Kimber didn't stab gun owners in the back.
There are other qualities to kimber like one peice barrel rather than two peice, Chip McCormick parts, and a whole bunch of stuff you can see in their brochure. Kimbers cost an arm and a leg, but to get the Colt up to speed you will eventually spend more on the Colt. Ante up! |

I've never had the exorbitant amount of cash necessary for an STI, so can't comment on them.
I have a full-size and a compact Kimber and they are the two most accurate handguns I own. I have not had a single complaint in any area regarding Kimber products. |

Another vote for Kimber. The Kimber Ultra Ten has a ten round capacity mag if that's important, but I prefer the thinner grip of the single-stack model.

I've had a Colt Gov't model for 13 years. I paid $450 for it in 1990, then proceeded to spend $1000 on customizing it. It's as good as my Kimber I bought last year for $750.
Springfield sucks, I bought one of their Loaded models in 2000. It jambed out of the box. Turned out the ejector was bent. Back to the factory it went. Extractor broke at 156 rnds. Back to the factory it went. Discontector groove in slide peened and mushroomed at 500 rounds. Back to the factory it went, soft slide, hammer was dragging over groove wearing it down. Back from the factory, into the consignment case at my local funstore. While there are good Springfields out there, mine was not one of them. BBossman out |

If you have two grand lying around try the Wilson Combat CQB with light rail.
It's my next purchase. Kimber is great too. A friend of mine bought a new colt. i disassembled it and found major rust on internal parts, ON A NEW GUN. WilsonCombat.com |

zoen, have you been to the handgun community in here yet?
A lot of great info to be found there about 1911s. True, some Springfields and Colts have been pretty much "luck of the draw" but mine are A-OK. Keep this in mind...not the Llama. |

I would reccommend Kimber. Some Colts are very good, but you have to know when they were made to know their quality.

Les Baer or Wilson Combat would be good choices. Wilson stopped using MIM parts on the CQB after 02.
