I've got a Canon Powershot G2 camera on loan right now.

Basically, what I need to do is take a picture of myself.

Is there a way I can set the camera somewhere and have it take the picture in like 5 or 10 seconds?

If so, I'd appreciate step-by-step instructions asap!!

Thanks!

Yes, there is a way. However, if I'd tell you, the ensuing flash will cause your retina to detach and your eyes to explode, you'll fly backwards from the photon impulse, knock yourself out by falling against the 2 inch thick carpet and thus you won't notice that you've also slashed your jugular vein with a sock wrapper.
I couldn't possibly bear the responsibiltiy for that.
Here's something that should help:

Yeah use the self timer mode

or use the remote control that comes with the G2.

CG, as near as I can tell you need to get into the "self timer" mode that will give youa 10 second count down before it snaps a pic. Push the Menu button and put it in Automatic Mode then push set then put it in Self timer mode. The LCD display should show a round circle with a single arrow pointing at around 11 o'clock position. Hope that helps

Not familiar with that particular model, but my Olympus D100 has a self-timer, as do nearly all the other camera's I've seen in that price range or better.  RTFM and thou shalt find the information thou seeks.

EDIT:  saw that it's a loaner, and you probably don't have a paper manual.  http://usa.canon.com should have your answers.

go to www.adobe.com and download the acrobat reader. it's pretty funny that someone with your username doesn't have that installed.

Get a REAL Canon camera...An F1-N...It has a timer. Takes better pictures than my $800 digital..although there are the film developing costs that suck. But when I went to Vegas to take wedding pictures it was the one I depended on for the critical shots. Plus, you can pound tent stakes with it. Try that with a plastic camera.
