[red]CALIFORNIA LEGISLATURE TO HEAR AB-50 ON JULY 8 [/red]

========================================
Greetings Freedom Fighters!!!

Gun-grabbers are still determined to ban a firearm that has never been used in a crime in the state of California. I'm sorry I could not get this out to you sooner. We had tried to use Microsoft's ListBuilder program whereby I could send messages from any computer. But their Terms of Service indicate that I cannot use their service to:
6. sell, offer to sell, distribute, promote, facilitate,
disseminate or link to any sites for marketing, sales,
promotion, facilitation or distribution of: firearms;
explosives; ammunition; liquor; tobacco products; illegal
gambling (including gambling in connection with
sporting events);

Sweet, huh? (I'll have more on this later.) But I'm sending this urgent plea to you now because your help is desperately needed.

Contact the Senate Public Safety Committee and Urge them to VOTE NO on AB50

This may be your LAST CHANCE to call, fax or email your legislators and tell them to say NO to AB-50. And as the saying goes, "Sh!t rolls East!" (or is it downhill?) Regardless of the state you live in, California Senators need to hear from you. Please call and/or send faxes. At this point, a snail mail letter would not reach them in time. You can find Committee members' contact info here:
Senate Public Safety Committee contact info

Contact ALL California Senators regarding AB50

If you have time, please contact ALL 40 senators. Contact info can be found here:

Legislative info critical to California can be monitored here: http://www.nramemberscouncils.com/legs.shtml#contactinfo

You can follow instructions included at the end of every message if you would like to change your preferences on receiving ARM USA's Freedom Reporter. If you should have any concerns regarding your subscription, you can always contact us at [email protected]. (To be removed from our mailing list, you can also hit Reply to any message, type "REMOVE" in the subject, and hit Send.)

Thank you for taking the time to get involved. It's people like you, ever vigilant, who help keep an eye on lawmakers and ensure they do not overstep their bounds and step all over our rights.

=========================================
50 Caliber Ban in California:

The hearing date for California AB-50 has been set for July 1st and will take place in the Senate Public Safety Committee. In spite of testimony by the LAPD that a fifty caliber rifle has never been used in a crime in the state of California, gun-ban legislators continue to ignore a 38 Billion dollar budget crisis in favor of vilifying a firearm safely enjoyed by thousands of sports enthusiasts for decades.
FCSPI President John Burtt will be one of only two witnesses allowed to testify in opposition to the bill at the July 1 hearing. This may be your LAST CHANCE to call, fax or email the Governor or your legislators and tell them to say NO to AB-50.

Contact information for the Governor or your legislator can be found on our web page at: www.fcspi.org

Our only hope is if all guns are banned, and the JBTs start going door to door.  Maybe then some people will wake up.

My state assemblymen is a two-term, ex-mayor of Berkeley, served under Carter and Clinton, and has lived in Berkeley since 1964. She not a dyke, she just looks like one.

My state senator is Tom "Ban then all" Torlakson, the same man who once sent me a postcard asking for my support in banning AWs in CA.

My letters don't mean anything.

Well Kali will be ground zero. So we'll be watching you guys. Just as soon as y'all break out those SKS rifles (or whatever is still legal at the time) and start the general uprising, we will consider doing the same.

CA as a state, but NYC as a total altogether. The only thing you can own in NYC is a hunting rifle, and a handgun, both of which take like a year to get the permit for. Oh, and you need the permit to buy ammo, also you need a seperate permit to OWN ammo (Actually, more than 200 rounds, but thats next to nothing).
Atleast in CA you can own an SKS or single-stack mag AK.

I could care less about .50cal ban... but i don't want to see it pass so I will try to stop it.

the real thing that pisses me off is the CA AWB.

And do what exactly?

I was at the SB23 hearings, and that is the last time I will do that.  There were more JBTs there than honest citizens, and I expected to get mauled by one of those dogs just going in the door.

My State Reps are both serious gun grabbers, so writing them is a waste of paper.  The moment they got my letter they would send a team to my house to confiscate my gun and give me a full body cavity search.  No Thanks....

Game over man, game over!

One more low blow for Californian gun owners. Soon enough there will be one hell of a low blow to the JBT's who ban firearms, that is, as soon as there is a virtual ban.
No way in hell the commie scum in CA are letting this one be put down.

BTW, I pray to god I am wrong in this post, for your sake.

It was supposed to be heeard in committee (Senate - Public Safety) today.

The meeting was shceduled originally for 1:30 pm, but when I checked the web site, they had moved it up to 8:30 a.m.

I did call the committee and registered my opposition, but of course I was speaking to a staff member, and who knows how far my comments went.

Insterestingly, they limited outside comment to 2 people per side.

Franlky, I'm P.O.'d about the change in schedule.

It kept me from making more calls.

That nad my boss three levels up who kept me waiting all day to meet, and never did find any time to meet as we had scheduled 2 weeks ago........!#%!#$%

Section 12278 to, the Penal Code, relating to firearms.

[blue]  I'm not sure, but I think this means that there could be another hearing scheduled at any time.

Check www.sen.ca.gov for the Public Safety committee schedule.

You'd think there are some rules about advance notice.

But there may be a danger in a hearing being scheduled with minimum notice, and only the favored public comment speakers (and the very vigilant) being notified or finding out on their own.  There was, for instance a change in the 7/1/03 meeting time for the committee, moving it up from 1:30 p.m. to 8:30 a.m..

I wonder how many people were caught by surprise on that one.

"Public Safety" is a 'Standing' Committee, meaning that it's like a fixture in the CA Senate.

The committee phone number (please make a good impression that will not alienate the staff)
is (916) 322-1305.

They will ask you what city you're from if your're stating a position.

Sacramento offices open by 9:00 at least.
The 916 area code offices are there, at the state capitol where they are in session.  The other numbers are district offices.

If someone can double-check those numbers ( all from the Senate web site) and report any arros, I'd appreciate it -  I'm late for work

For general information on the legislature, go to
www.leginfo.ca.gov

For a bill, go to "Bill Information"

Type into the search window the bill number if you know it ("AB50" for example)

Figure out which of the search results is the one you want, then click on that link.

The 'status" and "history" links you will then see give you the 'lowdown' on where in the legislature the bill is currently at (status)- and what is happening or going to be done, and (history) tells you you  the trail of how it got there.

Beneath that section, in 'latest on top' order, are the various versions of the bill.

[red]We have a week to write letters, it's suppose to help[/red]

The hearing on AB-50 that was scheduled for July 1st in the CA Senate Public Safety Committee was postponed at the “Request of the author”. Assemblyman Koretz (D-Hollywood) removed his bill from the agenda just as the committee convened at 10:40 AM on Tuesday. The hearing has been rescheduled for Tuesday July 8th at 0830 AM in the same committee. FCSPI will be there.

You might want to go to the following URL for a current analysis of AB-50: http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/bill/asm/ab_0001-0050/ab_50_cfa_20030701_134448_sen_comm.html

You will note that very few personal letters of opposition have come in on this bill to the Senate Public Safety Committee. This is one of the biggest gauges they use to judge how their constituents feel on a particular bill. We still have a week left and need all the help and support we can get. Attached below is the URL to get fax numbers, phone numbers and addresses of the members on the Senate Public Safety Committee. Please send them a letter.

                             *******
We have a dedicated volunteer from Assemblyman Koretz’s own district in Hollywood who will fax your letter to all Assembly & Senate members at no cost to you if you get it to him. Please take advantage of this offer.

If you know of anyone that would like to fax their letters but can't do so because of time, no fax machine, or cost in phone bills, let me know; they (or you) can forward them to my fax, and I will fax them to ALL 80 local/Sacramento fax numbers for them for free! Surprisingly, the faxes really are getting through.

Ron's fax number is  310-551-6841  or send copies to:  Ron Hess, P.O. Box 965, Los Angeles, CA 90078 . He will be sure they all get faxed as fast as he receives them.
                          ********

Senate Public Safety Committee:  (AB50) The phone number for this committee is (916) 322-1305  FAX: (916) 445-4688.  A complete listing of all of the members of the Senate Public Safety Committee phone/fax/email information can be found at:  http://www.nramemberscouncils.com/legs/senpubsafety.shtml .   Also, you can send a single email to each of the Senate Public Safety Committee Members by using the special "ONE CLICK" email address that you can find at: http://www.nramemberscouncils.com/legs.shtml .  By sending one email to the special "ONE CLICK" address, each one of the Senate Public Safety Committee Members will receive a copy of your message (so it is probably a good idea to address your messages with: Dear Senator,).

I her the reason the authoer postponed the hearing is that Koretz did not haave the votes in the committee for him to get it out with  a "do passs" recommendation.

Also, the next week is critical for grassroots action.   Anybody who can write a letter to the committee, make phone calls, etc. will have some real impact.  If we can generate enough written opposition by next Tuesday, the bill will effectively die in the committee, due to an upcoming legislative deadline.

Let's hop to it!

By the way, the lady I spoke with was strongly encouraging phone calls & letters to the office of Assemblyman Paul Koretz:

All,
I have received another email from Ron Hess regarding his offer to fax everyone's letters to CA Legislators. It is attached below.

Regarding those folks from out of state who are wondering what can you do?  A polite letter stating if 'AB-50 passes in CA you will no longer be able to travel to CA to compete in shooting matches and therefore will not be able to spend your tax dollars in CA.' That is a strong message in CA right now.

We can win this everyone!!

Everyone have a safe & happy 4th of July.

John Burtt, Chmn
FCSPI
-----------------------------------------------------------
Hi John:

I've only received 5 letters so far and only two were from people in CA. All were faxed individually last night, but it's not enough. So I am willing to up the ante a bit. It occurred to me last night, if people don't have a fax machine, they aren't able to fax me either (duh!).

If anyone wants to email me their letters or input, they are welcome to do so. One letter I received was anonymous; I can't use it and they'll just toss it in the trash if I send it.

If anyone is wondering, I am sending all letters one at a time, to each and every Senate member, including the committee. I am not doing a lump fax; each letter is being faxed by itself, as if from one person, to stress the numbers. THIS IS HOW I PLAN TO SPEND JULY 4th, ALL DAY! So send me your letters!

Anyone can forward their letters on AB-50 to me at:    [email protected]

                                                                                  by  Fax:    310-551-6841

or they can send copies to:   Ron Hess
