After reading various articles and posts about "sniper rifles" it
     occured to me: isn't a sniper a person, not a rifle? Shouldn't it be
     "sniper's rifle". I always figured a "sniper rifle" was just a
     marketing term to make wanna-be's get a hard on. It seems the rifle
     should be called a tactical rifle or something similar.
I especially
     hate it when we gun owners put a label on something that makes a tool
     sound inherintly evil. "High capacity" comes to mind. It should be
     "standard capacity" and "low capacity".  I also don't know why some folks who bought Romanian SAR's go around telling people they have an AK-47.  AR owners don't tell people they own M-16's, right?
     But I digress. If you say "Both terms are correct" please explain
     why.

The media recently reported that a guy fired something like 208 rounds of ammo THROUGH the front wall of his apartment (firing roughly in the direction of the parking lot where police were waiting).  They were careful to explain that he fired these 208 shots [b]"sniper-style"[/b] using a "semi-automatic assault weapon."

Clearly this is unbiased reporting, because EVERYONE knows that snipers train to fire large volumes of semi-auto fire in the rough direction of their targets, from INSIDE rooms, shooting THROUGH walls, windows, and doors that obscure the "sniper's" ability to even see his target...
