went in and looked at their ARs and was possably going to buy one.  I asked the guy if I could look at it, and he said, "how old are you"  so i said, 18.  (which i am)

Then he handed it to me and said, "you have to be 21 to buy these rifles."  I looked at him and said, what?  state law says 18 for rifles.

He proceeds to tell me its store policy that i have to buy at 21 and not at 18. I am not pleased!

Did you advise him that their "store policy" has cost them a customer (you) and possibly others once you get the word out?

That's the most asinine thing I've heard in a long time.

Like we don't have enough trouble getting young people involved in responsible gun ownership.

IDIOTS!

Sorry to hear that.  I love to browse that store.  I usually buy my ccw ammo there, nobody else has what I want.

Go see Jim Pruitt's store on the far northwest side.  His store is "fun" too, and I bet he doesn't have any hangups about taking your money.

Even though I bought two guns there - an old Smith model 36, and a Chinese SKS (not high-priced items), I don't like that store. It's good for browsing, but um, I'd rather buy from you guys or at gunshows.

Welcome to the world of stupid gun stores. No one will sell me .45 ACP even though it's for my .45 upper [;)]

Ammunition that can be fired in a handgun can not be sold to anyone under 21 even if it is for a long gun under current law. Collectors Firearms policy has always been 21 for non-hunting firearms. It isn't meant to keep young people out of the hobby. So far, no one under 21 that has wanted an AR has had any trouble getting a parent to accompany them and accomplish their purchase.

Last time a friend and I went to Wal-Mart to buy some 9MM ammo I got the "You cant buy this because you have to be 21" speech, so I said "Its for my carbine" and he let it go. Later on we loaded Beretta 92 mags.

"Ammunition that can be fired in a handgun can not be sold to anyone under 21 even if it is for a long gun under current law."

Well, then according to you, <21 can't buy ANY ammo.  Name one cartridge that doesn't have a pistol chambered for it.  Hell, there's even a .50BMG pistol...

Collectors is a nice place to browse....great gun and book selections.  It is not the place to purchase...unless it is something you can't live without.

The staff are generally arrogant and the usual gunstore know-it-alls.  Plus, they make a healthy profit buying collections from widows, who know nothing about their dead husbands collection.

So...guys, make sure you have data written down on your collection.  That way, your spouse or kids know what it is worth.

I know this can be an issue, documentation, etc...and you may have a few toys the wife does not know about!  But, you don't want your survivors getting screwed by the "gun experts" at places like Collectors.

I went to collector's looking for a P7M8.  They had a few, used, but a solid 98%.  I was interested.

Until they told me the price.  $1500 for a USED P7M8.

Shit, I can buy a NEW one for $250 less.

Morons.
