A little girl fell out of a cart and hit her head at Walmart. Her mother had just put her in the cart because the little girl was running around making a nuisance of herself and wouldn't stop. The girl leaned out of the cart too far, and BAM. If you have ever seen those videos of Evel Kneivel crashing his motorcycle and flopping like a ragdoll for a hundred yards, you will easily visualize what this little girl looked like as she hit the floor in a vertical attitude (nearly perfect headfirst strike).
Her mom rushed over, turned her over, and there was already a two inch wide bump on her head. As soon as she regained full consciousness, she again began screaming her head off again (a good sign, I believe). I called EMS after assessing that it wasn't quite as bad as it could have been, and they took 20 minutes getting there. I shoulda ordered a pizza just to see if that sarcastic crack about the pizza getting there first was true.
Anyway, all the witnesses gasped in horror, and the mother and I were the only two people in motion. Wrote a witness statement, and listened to several people tell me that's the most horrible thing they had ever seen. But nobody else stepped up
If people would get their finger out and decide that emergencies CAN happen to them or in their presence, and they have to act quickly and properly when shit happens, and more importantly be ready mentally and physically, we would all be better off and there would be no debate about government's duties, and who protects the people. The people would protect themselves and each other.
I hate sheep. And I'm not even an EMT. I don't get exposed to this stuff every day. It felt good helping the little girl, for sure.
