I remember seeing this at the movies when it came out. Freaked me the hell out. I took a girl, she about cut off the circulation on my arm from squeezing.

The Ocean Painting was the best.  The very ending was kinda eh.

ETA using kids as an emotional trigger in tv and movies is old.

Watching it now, will reserve judgment until the end.

Anyone remember the Langoliers?  Completely ruined by the ending.

It was an excellent movie for what it was: a PG-13 scary movie.  Can't rely on gore scares, and jump scares get old quick.  Most of the tension from the movie had to come with good writing, pacing, and tone.  I think it did really well, given what it was.

Man, I'm gonna check Netflix for it...

Looks like it's on Amazon Prime, too. Have to check it out. Read the book a few years ago.

I just happened to see that movie in the right place at the right time to freak my shit out. I was on a layover in NYC at the crew hotel which just so happens to be the historic Roosevelt hotel. I relax in bed after having a couple of Scotchs at the hotel bar and order 1408 from ppv. Then the mind fuck begins. Yes it was scary. It especially hit home because the movie hotel seemed so similar to the one I was staying in. Turned out it was filmed there.
