A Virginia man has been jailed for slinging racially derogatory remarks at long-time reporter Steve Crump.

According to the WBTV, the station with which Crump works, Brian Eybers was in the Charleston County Detention Center following the confrontation in which Crump and his camera crew recorded the 21-year-old repeatedly calling the reporter a “n----r.”

Being a racist and just using words, not any physical harm or potential harm is a crime?

A shitty word used by shitty people. As horrible as it is, pretty sure there's something in some document about having the freedom to voice your opinions.

Has to be more to the story. While detestful to call someone that, it is not a criminal offense, unless they went with the catchall disturbing the peace charge?

I'd guess he was charged with disorderly conduct, the article doesn't say. Last time I checked, the actual use of certain words is not a crime.

So in other words he was arrested for probably disorderly conduct or for standing in front of the dude's car and not letting him leave.

Well, that changes things. So he probably wasn't arrested for the word. But they need to gin up some more racial tension.

I'm 59, and have mentally applied that word correctly than 87% of those that greet each other with the term.

Well hell, maybe not.

It may be more inclusive but it's certainly still misleading.

HE WAS ARRESTED FOR DISORDERLY CONDUCT, NOT USING THE N-WORD!!!

Fuckwit could have been calling him "Sweety Pie" and "Nummykins" and if he was screaming it over and over again and getting in the guy's face he still would have been arrested for disorderly conduct.

For repliers number 1 thru 5 (to save me quoting it all)...

Our left wing Marxist friends in the "Democratic" (National Socialist) Party would like it arranged that you can be charged with a felony for "hate speech," and lose your gun rights for it.

Do not doubt for a minute that this is on the agenda, long term.

Websites like this one will also be shut down over it once they have all their plan pieces in place.

I can't believe that's all there is to it. The guy has the right to say things that others find offensive.

Though I will say, setting the flag on fire, or screaming offensive things at a soldiers funeral, or using the most offensive insult possible against a black american, should all result in similar forms of disagreement. Being a dick should have consequences.
