If someone awarded me something I didn't ask for and couldn't have cared less about what duty is it of mine to respond? I understand it's in good taste to do so and something I personally would respond to, but if Dylan wants to remain silent then so be it.
If the prize is associated in some way to the judges that vote for the peace prize maybe he's doing the right thing... |

in simple terms, he could give a shit less about the prize and doesn't want it or want to even talk to the committee, which pissed off that guy so he comes up with the silly notion "impolite and arrogant" because he's all pissed that dylan chose not to even talk to him.
aside from singing protest songs, dylan never participated or came to any huge protests. which pissed a lot of left winger singers, guthrie, baez etc... and others for him not showing up. a lot of people on the left also thought that he was a "sell out" when he was more interested in making money for his songs then "being his songs" and of course the right hating him for his songs and him when you can piss people off on both sides of the political divide, then you are doing good |

The Nobel Prize has been cheapened a lot in the past few years with the Peace Prize going to people who have contributed little or even negatively towards world peace. The thing is, the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded very differently than the other Prizes in mathematics, biology, economics, etc. The Peace Prize is pretty much a popularity contest where the other Prize selections is more like a scientific peer review. Those prizes can only be awarded based on something that has been discovered and published. The Peace Prize is more about "teh feelz".
As it is, I couldn't give a shit about who's won the Peace Prize lately but I still have some respect for the other Prize winners. |

Dylan considers himself for an old style song and dance man. I've never found him arrogant, but he is aloof regarding his fans and celebrity.
