Sad, that once again we have ended the hostilities in Iraq too soon.

May his family find comfort in the fact that he died preserving their freedoms, what little we have left.

Sorry, how do you figure?  Have you not been watching the news stories about our guys raiding Ba'athist strongholds, etc?  Should we have tanks blowing up buildings at random or something?  What exactly do you think we should be doing?

I disagree.

While it is a tragedy that this young soldier was killed, especially for his family back home,  I cannot call his death a waste.  In the true warrior spirit, PFC Pahnke gave his live for ideals that our nation cherishes and celebrates--liberty, humanity, and justice.  Although, if you had asked him, he would not ascribe such motives to his actions, he, and all those who have sacrificed their lives for their country, should be revered by all for what they have given.  And, although I agree that any death is hard to take, remember that he and all his brothers in arms are not there skylarking or sightseeing--they are removing a threat to our nation, liberating an oppressed people, and stabilizing an entire region of the planet.

PFC Pahnke's death reminds me, and should remind every American, that these actions in other countries are serious business, and should only be undertaken with the utmost thought, the complete resolve of the entire nation, and for the most serious of reasons.

God Bless PFC Panhke and his family.  He died not in vain, but for the most noblest of causes--"Greater love hath no man
than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends," or in this case his country.  (John 15:13)

This was not a waste.  It was certainly a tragedy, but not a waste.

Last I heard, we had lost 53 soldiers since George Bush declared the war over. We are averaging over 1 per day.

I remember, when we first started, they'd show the flag draped coffin(s) returning home. Don't see that too much now. In fact, I don't hear anyone in the media, or govt, talking about American casualties.

I guess they DID learn something in Vietnam....

Don't put dead American soldiers on the evening news... [rolleyes]

This man could not have been much over the age of 18. Still a baby. He became a man when he answered the call, stood up, and laid his life on the line for ours. Sadly, he won't come home. God holds a special place in Heaven for the selfless warriors that die so that others may live. Eternal glory, eternal peace. [USA]

Except he never said it was over.  He said that most open hostilities were over, he never once gave the impression that there would be no more fighting.
