If you lived in northern california, I'd tell you to stop by San Francisco.

But i'd check with the local butcher shops.  Try the yellow pages, or a supermarket butcher to find out where one is.

my family has a big freezer in the garage, we buy meat whenever it is on sale and throw it in there, that way we always have a stockpile :D

I have been hooked on bison lately.  It tastes great to me and is low in fat.  There are a bunch of places online that sell it, I have ordered from this one in the past:

Costco has about 10 stores in the Zone.  Their meat prices are pretty good in the Cali stores.  They usually have USDA Choice whole ribeyes, pork loins, etc.  You buy the chunk and cut your own steaks or chops.

If you have freezer space, look around for a deal on a quarter (upper portion of a side) of beef.  A quarter will be around 300 pounds, so you might want to split it with someone.  It took a roommate and me about 16 months of eating beef almost every day to go through one.

You'll often see deals where if you buy a quarter of beef now they throw in 20 pounds of bacon, several whole chickens, etc.

Costco has excellent meat.  I couldn't survive the low carb thing without them and I'm a meat snob.

I've ordered from www.buffalogal.com for years for all my Buffalo.  Great service, excellent prices, and the best buffalo meat out there.  I can get Ostrich and Emu locally.

Other than that, perhaps go to a few local (not chain) restaurants and ask them who they get their bulk meat from.  Probably a local distributor.  Though you might have some difficulty buying from the distributor if you aren't a restaurant.

I usually buy at Sams club.  Nothing exotic, but great quality and prices.

Don't overbuy, one of the side benifits of the diet is that you loose your appetite.  You will not eat as much as you think, and its better without freezer burn.
