I have a pair of IOR 10x40 Rangefinders that I like very much.
Everyone I show them to, comment on their clarity.

Steiner 10x50's here...Mil. Marines...worth every penny! Rubber armored, can take a beating and some great glass. You'll love them!

I've got a pair of Steiner 7 X 50 EGBA that I bought from the AAFES catalog for $125 in 1985.  They are fantastic.  Rubber armored, solid construction, wide field of view, great low light capabilities.  Spend the extra money and invest in quality optics!

I have multiple binos. From Bushnells, Nikon, Steiners, Pentax but don't piss away all this money like I did. I bought the last pair I'll ever need.

GET LEICA'S !!!!!!!
If I had just bought a good pair in the first place, I would have just had spent the $800 on them and been done for a lifetime.

No. Look at the Navigator or Safari line.

I've owned a pair of Steiner Mil./Marine 8X30s for a long time.  Great binoculars, excellent quality.  I'd reccomend a higher magnification if you can justify the cost.  I think the 8X30s are around $200 and anything more powerful will be atleast double that.

Take a look at a birdwatching site as they usually have good information.  For example, www.betterviewdesired.com.  They are usually more scientific about optical quality than the "I like Steiners because they come in Olive Drab" crowd here.  [;)]

I have a pair (hmm, only one set, shouldn't be called a pair I suppose) of Leupold 12 x 50, they have given good service for the past six years.

You can be assured you'll get what you pay for with names like

Steiner
Leica
Zeiss
Swarvoski

Usually for somewhere under a grand. This quality won't strain your eyes and can be passed down to your grandkids.

There are other models in lines like

Leupold
Nikon
Baush&laumb

That people like, but you'll have to go by word of mouth and see for yourself.

They are a helluva lot cheaper.
