My gun budget is on hold indefinately until the Jeep is finished (like that happens)...I will squeeze scuba in somewhere...

And my 'close circle'(read sisters mostly) are pressuring me to get married. Who can afford a woman (time OR money) with hobbies like mine. My last GF was a CPA. She said my income to expense ratio was bad. Said I should cut hobby spending [i]or[/i] increase income. Got a P/T job, then she "didnt get enough quality time". Got rid of her & kept the PT job. My hobbies are out of control.

Anybody else have the spendy hobbies? Do they ever cost you more than money?

Shooting and guns is one of those rare hobbies that tends to get REALLY out of control amongst it's enthusiasts.
I collect coins, and I've never seen a coin collector go after a certain coin the way i've seen gun-nuts try and gobble up a certain gun.

R/C model aircraft can be expensive, but fun.

Try military historical reenactment, esp. re-creating a British soldier or officer, 1745-1815. The uniforms and guns, [b]if done right without cutting corners such as machine sewing and modern materials/construction[/b] can cost thousands, each. The gun :$1200-3000, depending on what type is appropriate. Long Land Musket or Baker Rifle?, for example- and who makes them- that can change the price... The uniform and entire kit: around $1200 for a private. You don't want to know what an officer's costs. Then the sword...then the other stuff...officer's stuff (should) cost the most anyway.

Of course, you can, acquiring some skills, make the stuff yourself, but, unlike shopping at the sutlers and merchants at Civil War reenactments, where one can whip out the Visa card and become a Rent-a-Reb or Store-bought Bluebelly almost instantly, 18th cent. reenactment is a serious committment of time, sweat equity and money, just to acquire the gear needed to do it. Unfortunately, there are many people in the hobby who cut corners...must be Democrats [rolleyes]....

Belief that gun ownership is a hobby is why there are so many gun control laws today.

Running cheap 7.62, It runs around 10 rounds a second.  At $100 a thousand, that's a dollar a second.

Running XM193 or Q3131 in something else i like to beat up, the #'s work out to something like $1.66 a second.

rc heli's are fun

I took up indoor Rock Climbing as an "inexpensive" hobby. Still not too cheap but cheaper than my others.

My other hobbies:
1) Women. Nuff said.
2) Cars. Chevy truck, expensive to play with.
        Soon to be sports car, SCCA here I come.
3) Guns. Been shooting for years, I did have about 7k worth in shotguns and rifles at 17 years of age. (I didn't pay full rpice for anything)I bought my 1st AR last november as a "cheap to shoot" gun. HAHAHA yeah right. Now I'm lookin at picking up a couple of handguns and a tactical shotgun, and a revolver/lever action combo and now a  .30-30 lever gun from that other thread. Damn.

The extra [unlisted] pistols, some duplicates, the [unlisted] rifles to include multiple copies of the same gun/platform, etc are a function of my hobby.

My country Grandpa wasnt crazy about guns, they were strictly a tool. My [s]crazy[/s] country Uncle liked guns so he collected them. Dad is a hybrid of both, I am a xerox copy.

Hobby- An activity or interest pursued at ones leisure for enjoyment. Yep that fits!

Whatever you do, do NOT get interested in racing cars (real ones).
I recently sold my drag car. Had about $30k+ in it (and untold hundreds of hours of labor) and got to make a total of about 50 passes in it. Sold for $8k (in pieces).

As my dad always says, if it flys, floats, or fucks, it's cheaper to rent it.

Hmmm...my favorite hobby is blacksmithing.  I have managed to pay for every upgraded piece of equipment in my shop with proceeds from work produced in the forge...except the anvil, which I bought outright to get started.  I've even bought guns and such from forge profits.

I'm not making anything on this weeks labor though..a knife for dad for fathers day.

Oh, and I don't charge the wife...not in money anyway >:)

Machining, A hobby with a payoff if your good...

All the basic machines required to make a basic Bolt rifle: $3500 (No top-of-line stuff(a good lathe though), just a lathe, mill, grinder, rotary tool, planer).
Bits to Bore, Rifle, and ONE chamber reamer: $500
Headspace guages: $75
Bit's to actually cut all the other parts: $300+++
Die/tap/drill-bit's for one gun: $200+
One 72" 440C high-carbon Stainless steel rod, 1.5" dia: $188 (aluminum and plain steel are cheap, thats for the rest of the gun)
Hardening of steel (not sure, didnt shop around yet, probably in the $100-$200 range for just a barrel )
Add to this all the other stock material, plus furniture, plus probably a bunch of other stuff I forgot.

Ten again, a toy like this could sell, and if you know what your doing, and make it look cool, it'll pay back whatever it cost you.
