Funny with all the computer games that come and go, Chess has withstood the test of time. I was looking at a chess game at Target one night and my daughter who was 6 at the time asked me what was that and how to play it.
So we bought it. Now at 10 years of age she practically beats everyone who plays her in just a few moves. Yes, the game is VERY addictive and exercises the mind. What funny is that I am starting to see more kids getting into it. |

Not really. But man, it's exciting when you can see a checkmate, especially against a better player.
One of my super-smart friends is a chess geek. Has a $120 timer and everything. Beating him was an incredible thrill, especially because of the tantrum he threw. |

I use to play pretty seriously back in the 70's and 80's. Made a fair bit of cash winning class tournaments and hustling blitz players, but when my rating went over 2200 it was either get serious about the game and really study, or just play for fun. There's just so far that a really strong tactical game will get you [;)]
So I gave up the serious stuff and probably only play a couple of games a year now. |

I was reading a little history on Nimzo tonight. Apparently Alekhine was afraid of his game and refused to play him. Some believe he could have beaten Alekhine and Capa.
I bought 'My System' and "Chess Praxis" on eBay, but haven't started studying them. I am reading "Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess" and "Russian Chess" by Pandolfini right now. And, yes, I do have a problem. AILapua, Where do you play? |

You can pick up a good set fairly cheap. I bought my 3" Mark of Westminster for $115 including shipping which I think was a good deal. tony |

Once I solve the equation of chess and figure out a winning strategy, then I will be able to win every time. Not even that Kasperov guy or IBM will be able to beat me. Kind of like how you can force a tie every game in Tic Tac Toe, except hopefully I will be forcing wins.

Personally, I am not all that into it.

I personally prefer GO (I dont play it enough to be very good though). It is hard to get sombody to play it face to face.
I have found a few computer versions but the AI is usually real easy or freaking slow as heck. |
