The Civil War ended more than 150 years ago, but the U.S. government is still paying a veteran's pension from that conflict. "One beneficiary from the Civil War [is] still alive and receiving benefits," Randy Noller of the Department of Veterans Affairs confirms. Irene Triplett – the 86-year-old daughter of a Civil War veteran – collects $73.13 each month from her father's military pension. The identity of Triplett was first reported by The Wall Street Journal in 2014. "VA has an obligation to take care of our nation’s veterans no matter how long. It is an honor to serve and care for those who served our country," Noller explained in an email to U.S. News. http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2016-08-08/civil-war-vets-pension-still-remains-on-governments-payroll-151-years-after-last-shot-fired |

There were a few wives of veterans being paid up to recently as well.
These were women who married older veterans when they were young girls. |

Her dad would have had to make her when he was 75-80 years old???

Quoted: Her dad would have had to make her when he was 75-80 years old??? View Quote He was 83 From the article: Triplett's father was Mose Triplett, born in 1846. He joined the Confederate army in 1862, but later deserted and signed up with the Union. His first wife died and they did not have any children. He later married Elida Hall who was at least 50 years younger. They had five children, three of whom did not survive infancy. But Irene, and her younger brother Everette did. Mose Triplett was 83 when Irene was born, nearly 87 when her brother Everette came along. |

Daughter sounds like a friend of mine, at least when it come to be connected to event we consider light years back. His Dad got out the Army as a Colonel right after the Depression hit to look after family stuff. Got dragged back to work a Coastal Defense unit when we got into WW2, and was 78 when my friend was born in 1975.
He lives as long as his family usual does he'll end up seeing the 100th to 120th year anniversaries of America getting into WW2. And that's barring medical advancements that may or may not happen. |

I won't be that guy as I have no idea how military pensions work or how they are paid out. So the children of veterans collect the pensions of their deceased parents? View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Just found out earlier today that my neighbors cousin who was in the Army during Nam gets $350 per
month for some agent orange issue. Funny thing is while he was in country he said he never say agent orange, that he was never around it it or exposed to it as he was not a front line soldier. |
