I been around firearms my whole life and have even reloaded a few shotgun shells in my lifetime and I don't even know what a grain is.
I don't even know if I am spelling it correctly.
Seriously, how does a grain compare to a gram or to an ounce?
Thanx for edjumicating me.

there are 7000 grains in a pound.

I'm sure someone will post the calculations for grams, etc.

I think this had to do with how many grains of wheat were in a pound.  Someone long ago figure out it was 7000.   That is the unit of measurement we use for bullets and powder charges.  Much finer than ounces or grams.

437.5 grains per ounce.
15.43 grains per gram.

Most reloaders use scales that can measure to the 1/10th of a grain.  That is pretty accurate!

Compare 1/70,000 ths of a pound to a 1/100th of a pound that the postal and counting scales use.

If you ever wanted to know the weight of an ant or somthing, you can weigh it on a reloading scale.

Found this too:
Avoirdupois Weight 27 11/32 grains = 1 dram
16 drams = 1 ounce
16 ounces = 1 pound
100 pounds = 1 short hundredweight

Apothecaries Weight
20 grains = 1 scruple
3 scruples = 1 dram
8 drams = 1 ounce
12 ounces = 1 pound

In apothecary weight, there are 480 grains per ounce. This is a difference of 8.85%, which is significant. I am sure, though, that reloading is done in avoirdupois (water) weight.
