My research led me to believe that the newly imported SP5K's can not accept a drop in sear.  That revelation led me to not buying one.

Is there any confirmation on this?  The HKpro forum still seems up in the air on the answer.

They should have owned this market.  For years.  Now the Sig MPX and CZ Scorpion are out.  I don't even remember how much HK was asking for this, but no thanks.

They sell for right around $2500 with a hundred dollar case and nice mags.

The quality is arguably easily twice as good as that of my Evo, and I would be tempted to say that the quality is 3-4 times as good.

I agree, they should have brought it here sooner if that's your only point.

Yeah, I'm going with this. For $2700, this is for the die hard "must have" HK fans only. It is far from the best option for a PCC at this point.

$2500?  For a 9mm pistol?  Yeah HK can go fuck themselves.  And "arguably" and "easily" shouldn't follow each other in a sentence.

I don't believe it would be importable if able to directly accept select fire parts,or at least why would rules be different for it than Turk guns?

The turk guns use a swingdown lower, which is why they explicitly had to be blocked from accepting a full auto carrier. Looks like the SP5K uses the same old shelf-ledge semi receiver as other HK semis, so it should still be capable of using a registered sear or trigger pack, just like any other semi HK.

I think you can modify it to run full-auto, but it's not drop in and rock and roll. Guy in the video says there's a block in the receiver. You can either mod the receiver or the bolt carrier. Turn off's for me is the lack of paddle mag release and flush barrel. I'd rather get a clone with three lug barrel and paddle mag release for much cheaper. The HK is nice, but not worth it in my opinion, unless you just have to have the HK name on it.

The couple of larger stores around me sold each of them that slowly trickle in (less than 5 each store).  Closer to 4 for sure, not 40.  I was seconds away from buying one while I bought my Evo, but the sear question was leaving me in doubt.  It's still a WAY nicer PCC than the Evo, which I really like.  The quality between the two can't be compared.

Until they quit importing them again and then the $2500 9mm pistol goes up in price to $4k, then $5k, then up to the $6-$8k the SP89 was selling for prior to the SP5K.

I don't mind paying $$$ for what I want. I work hard and chose not to spawn for several reason, one being able to buy guns I want. Especially ones I lusted after growing up.

I know my SR9T has sheet steel as well as a bar welded all up in and covering the push pin hole bushings. I noticed on the SP5k the bushing are completely exposed on the inside, only covered with sheet metal on the outside where they were not drilled out at the factory. I am sure with the correct jig a MFG could easily convert it. It does have a semiauto bolt. Quality looks just as good as previous 9x series guns.

It comes with HK's midlife improvement optic mount, which runs ~ $400 from most places. The $75 screw driver, case, 2 mags and bungee sling. So the actual pistol is sub $2k when you factor in the extras.

I am curious about the sear issue mentioned. I have not heard that yet.

I will have a MP5k-N parts kit coming for mine next week. I plan on sending it to Mike @ TSC and having him do a conversion on it while I form 1 it.

Mike Otte posted pictures of several pallets coming via Fedex that he has sold on hkpro. I was looking at the serial # thread there and it looks like there is at least 1000 units in circulation going by the numbers mentioned. I know mine is between 1000 & 1100. Everyone locally that has ordered on has had it sold before it made it to the store. One local store has 2 coming in Nov and they are both spoken for.

Yeap. I am knee deep in HK firearms. I completely agree. HK could rule the gun world if they wanted to. If they would have brought out a VP9/40 pistol around the time of the P2000, if they would sell a legit semiauto 416 or 416 upper kit, and a legit 417 & G28, and if they would do small batch runs of the 9x series, among other things. I know they have to deal with German law, but seriously, look at all the HK builders doing steady work. Look at all the guys doing chop jobs on MR556 & 762 rifles. Look at all the clones like PTR, Zeinith...being sold. That is $ they could have kept in house. Hell they have a plant here. If the dollar talked loud enough, you would think they could find some way to make things happen. It sucks and I bang my head against the wall over it. Today I took a couple new shooters out shooting rifles up to 400 yards.. It blew my mind; out of an AI AX260, HK MR762, KAC EMC, and a HK SR9T with PSG1 stock, they all liked shooting the SR9T best by a wide margin. I have a Leupy Mk6 3-18x on it. They were ringing a 16" gong at 400 yards with M118lr as fast as they could pull the trigger. One guy has $ and I don't doubt that if I had another one with me I could have sold it right there. I even pulled he scope off and let them run it using the gen 4 msg90 1200 meter sights and they were still banging the steel almost as well as with the scope. I agree they are not for everyone, but I have no doubt if HK made them it would sell. I would literially give a kidney if they would do a new semiauo factory HK11e w/2 spare barrels and option to buy factory 50 round drums, that would take a drop in sear.

It has it's place. It's not perfect, but it does have a role. I think that things like the compact subguns will gain in popularity as we travel further down the road of social unrest. You can stick an MP5k  and all the mags you could carry in a small laptop case. Much smaller than you can fit an AR in. It could in theory be warn under a coat in a shoulder rig. If you found yourself in a sudden bad situation like an armed flash mob oractive shooter situation, depending on where you are it might be just the ticket to get out of a bad situation.

A role I can see it filling very well is a get home gun for the wife. Something compact she can keep hidden in her car and be able to deploy it from the drivers seat, keep it in the seat beside her if she sould have to travel through a bad area during a time of social unrest. Just because it is semiauto doesn't really matter to me. No one is going to stand there while you shoot at them. Regardless if it is a 22lr or 338 lm. Sure select fire would be awesome, but for the role I bought it for semi is fine.

If things got real bad a suppressed subgun could extremely useful for many things. Think back, SMG's were quite popular during times of domestic unrest in other areas. The IRA comes to mind. Just because it is not a front line weapon for most LE & Mil doesn't mean it wouldn't have a place in personal protection for civilians. Even the MP7 would be a good option here (if only HK would bring it to market).

Meh...I'll keep my SP89 which can accept a FA sear....cost me $800 back in the day

Just curious, what year did you buy it? If you bought it in '89 at $800 that is roughly $1600 today adjusted for inflation. Factor in the extras that the SP5k comes with and their individual cost from the probably $2200-2300 dealer cost (and I am sure they will price dip a bit after the new wears off) and in reality you are not too far from what that SP89 cost you back in the day.
