Still, it's better than having Martha in a bikini and the Very lovely Miss Vega in a dowdy overcoat.

BERLIN - Juergen Moellemann, the maverick German politician who plunged to his death in a parachute jump Thursday, had a penchant for dramatic overstatement which saw him soar to political heights before - figuratively - plummeting from grace in recent months.

A passionate amateur parachutist and skydiver, Moellemann often drew parallels between his high-flying sport and his up-and-down political career which saw him spawn a controversy over alleged anti-Semitic activities. It was a controversy which analysts say changed the outcome of last September's general election in Germany.

IIRC, he was in civvies when entering some building that was guarded by Marine sentries. He allegedly flashed his ID at the guard, but did so very quickly. I understand the guard was trying to get him to show his ID again, perhaps blocking him from entering the building, and the Admiral grabbed the Marine's wrist to move the Marine out of his way. Seems like a very small incident to cost a man his career.

Well, upon further inspection, it depends on which story you read:

I hope there is more, this guy was a Adm. a hell of a way to treat someone who devoted his life to the US./// Thank you, read them both, seems he was just a old school man in modern times.

I believe there was more to it than just that incident.  That incident was the one that just brought the initial spotlight on him.  From what I have read, the good Admiral has a tendency to be abusive.  If that's the case, I hope that his dismissal will be a learning tool for other officers.

What's he doing in a photo with the SEAL trident in the background? I don't see a trident on his chest, but wings.

It's not a SEAL trident.  It's a flag with the Naval Academy seal on it.
