you know the ones that use compressed air and
they look like a Thompson sub machine gun? you
win a prize if you can shoot out the red star.

I tried several times but could never shoot out
all the red?

I tried shooting in bursts, shooting all around
the edge, whats the best technique?

Trace around the star in a circle with short, controlled bursts. Then punch out the cutout with a short burst to the center.

whats the best technique?

first, look at the sights carefully...most of them are bent (purposefully) and off on elevation also.

shoot a card to find the aimpoint and impact point.

then use ben's method.

[carni]and we have a winnah![/carni]

Sometimes I can, but more often I can't quite get the whole red star.  I use BenDover's method explained above but because they give you so few BBs in the magazine it's still tough.  They're empty after 5 or so short bursts, and the first burst is always wasted to see where the BBs are hitting in relation to the sights (usually WAY off).

Typical carnival game rip off (but fun nonetheless)

I worked that game for a few months at six flags back in the 80's. If you empty the gun in 5 bursts, you are shooting too much in each burst. It takes a couple of try's(and since it was free to me why not,) but you have to figure out the break on the trigger so you can tease one or two shot bursts out of the gun. Once you can do this, cutting out the star is just a matter of point and shoot to cut it out around the edge.

i;d be cool if you had a flame thrower instead.  after you missed with the bbs just whipp out the flamer and whos gonna tell you that you didnt win?

I was watching this drunken idiot trying to shoot out the little red star with one of these a few years ago. After several tries, this guy thought he was being cheated so he he threw down another dollar, got a reload, and proceeded to shoot up the whole booth! LMAO. He looked like a wobbly John Wayne taking a bunker in Sands Of Iwo Jima! The poor guy running the booth had to dive for cover as the sound of ping-ping-ping rang out in rapid succesion as the BB's impacted the tin walls. I still laugh about that to this day, you just had to be there to see the look on everyone's face. But nobody was injured, which makes it easier to laugh about.

Not to be nit-picky but every one I've seen used #12 shot, not BB's.

Thats a hilarious story charging-handle,I wish I coulda been there to see it!

You guys ever think of just cuttin the damn paper in half right above the star?

I used to try that game every now and then at our annual fair, but heck 20 years ago it was a dollar a pop so I didn't really get much experience.

Any surveillance film?

I would pay to see that.

I always thought the bore was oversized so the BBs just bounce out and make controlled aim rather difficult.
