What about snacks?
How about at a buffet when you get a fresh plate?
Just wondering...

Not on my own.  Only when I'm with a group of people that decide to.

Yes, at major meals.  There's nothing wrong with thanking the Lord for the nutritional sustinance I'm about to consume.

I'm just getting pissed when guests of ours pray and thank God for the meal, and forget to tip afterwards. "Hey, you! What's with the mumbling?!Looky over here, this guy in the kitchen cooked the stuff and I dragged it over to your table!"

I do if I remember. I don't make a big "bow my head and close my eyes" thing of it. Just a few quick thoughts in my head and then chow down.

[:D]

Of course I pray before I eat. But God's big enough to understand I'm not going to pray for every single thing that crosses my lips, every single day of my life.

It's all about the attitude of the heart. Living a lifestyle of thankfulness to God. KNowing that all good things come from Him.

No, drawing breath is my prayer, anything beyond that is overkill; Conscience Existence itself is praise to God.

I thought drawing breath is a gift FROM God. I know for a fact that every good thing that comes from this earth, comes from His hand. even though I will never fully understand how putting little seeds in the ground causes a full-grown plant to exist, I do accept it.I am also awed by it and am very(consciously!)thankful.

By the very fact that we can draw breath on our own shows that whatever created us that we are able to something on our own.

Like the first time a child walks or rides a bike by itself.  Or when someone's children become parents in their own right; that which brought one in to this world, and taught them about this world, can now watch how well they taught their own children to be parents.

By being a good parent, does that not honor your mother and father?

Only when food miraculously appears out of nowhere. If/when that happens I will personally thank god for the meal he has provided as it would be the polite thing to do.

Last year I took a ham to a relatives house and they thanked god for the food. And there I am thinking "Hey, I paid $45 for the damn thing. I worked for the $45 bucks and went shopping for it myself. I drove it up here for you people. I don't even remember god kicking in for gas."

Thankfully this year I won't have to provide a ham on the holidays since according to them, god will provide. This god is a pretty cool guy if he's gonna kick in for all future hams. It will save me a lot of time and money. I just wish someone would have told me a long time ago.

Proverbs 22:6, and I didnt depart from it.

At every meal. I always take a second and give thanks. In my car, out to eat, wherever, whenever.

I will never forget as a kid, our choir was traveling, and the preacher had arranged the meal. Sunday he said in his sermon, "Some of ya'll go out in public and are embrassed, dont wanna give thanks, ya'll better give thanks, you dont know where that food came from".

.SDavid:

your point is a good one.I guess I had never thought of it that way(no kids yet!).
My guess is that you are still missing something, though. You see, that "whatever created us",as you put it,is a majestic, holy, perfect being. He has many names, possesses and is the author of all human emotions,His ways are not our ways,His thoughts, above our thoughts. He longs to have a close relationship with his children(us): in much the same way that you long to have a close relationship with your kids.He loves you and is not willing that you or any of His children should perish.
to answer your question, yes. being a good parent does honor your parents!

p.s.-have you read the context from which you derived your sigline?

Please reread the topic of this thread.  It's a question.

What kind of thread is a bunch of people answering yes to a question?

This topic came up at my local tavern last week.  I went to get a beer and came back to the table.  The young lady I was sitting with asked me if I said grace.  I was like "huh", over a beer???  I misheard what she said, but this lead to a lively discussion.

We concluded that beer is equally deserving of a blessing as any other nourishment.

Yea copying and pasting from www.dictionary.com might take a lot of time to someone computer illiterate, but for us technologically advanced ctrl+c and ctrl+v work wonders.
