"Heavily armed" or just "heavy?"

What is the media’s obsession with dramatic descriptions of firearms? The pictures in these article show a few guys with M4s, the rest with their normal sidearm. Yet EVERY caption uses the adjective, “heavily armed.” Other descriptions such as, “heavily armored,” “uniformed,” “overweight,” “stern,” “thoughtful,” or many other would have applied. What is with the obsession?

Either the media:
1. Don't know. A guy can carry a rifle with an empty mag, but wearing a ninja clothing is considered "heavily, well arms".
2. Know, but sensationalized it for a purpose of eye-catching words or phrase to sell newspapers.

Heavily armed, shit. Heavily armed is when I'm carring my M1 w/ 300 rounds of ammo, 1911 w/ 3 mags and extra ammo, 4 grenades, 3 smoke grenades, m3 trench knife, m2 switchblade, a 1/3 of my M2 mortar, when I go do battle with the Hun. It is also heavy.

I define "heavily armed" as carrying a mortar or another component of a squad served weapon.

In the press' case, it sounds ominous.

It also reminds me of the scene in the movie "Commando" when Arnold starts piling on the weapons when he lands on the island.

I hate the term 'heavily armed'.

'A heavily armed gunman robbed the 7-11.

I suppose a lightly armed gunman robbed the drugstore next door?

Sorta like 'Live Nude Dancers'.
Does the club a block away feature DEAD nude dancers?

It's all a matter of economics. Many local PDs have found that buying donuts and McD's in bulk works out to be much cheaper than kevlar. It's eco-friendly "body armor" *and* it supports the local economy. [:D]

One of the other sergeants here never wears his BA and I always give him shit about it. Last night when he came in I tap him on the back and ask wear the vest is. He tells me he has his "fat chance" on. He weights about 300 lbs.
