WOODWORTH - An Alexandria woman tried Tuesday to outrun officers, thinking police could not arrest her once she made it home, Woodworth Police Chief James Gonzales said.
Renetta Fells, also known as Renetta Williams, of 3729 Church St., Alexandria, told officers she had seen that happen on a television show. Fells also did not stop because she did not want her car impounded, police said.
But once she pulled into her driveway, officers from four agencies surrounded and arrested Fells, who already was on probation, on charges of speeding, aggravated flight from an officer, reckless operation of a vehicle, and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
Gonzales said the chase began when Fells' vehicle pulled out of the Exxon station in Woodworth near Interstate 49. Officer Edric Smith noticed the vehicle did not have a license plate, so he attempted to pull it over. Fells sped up and got onto I-49, Gonzales said.
Smith chased Fells' vehicle, which reached speeds of up to 95 mph, into Alexandria, Gonzales said. By the time the chase entered the city, officers with the Louisiana State Police, Alexandria Police Department and Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office were assisting.
Fells pulled into her driveway and got out as if nothing had happened, Gonzales said. No one was injured during the chase.
She remained in the parish jail Wednesday.
