Hey! I've yet to purchase an AR-15, but I'm in the process of scrapping together some money.
I have a few questions for those more knowledgable than I:
1) For $1100, what is the most "all-around" AR-15 I can purchase?
2) Other than age, do you need anything to purchase AR-15's (such as licenses)?
3) Do you have any other tips that might perhaps help me out?

Thx in advance!

Stay away from those 12 gauge AR15's, WOW what a kick.

1) Yeah, you can buy it with that amount of money.

2) All the information you need has already been posted on this site.  Look around.

3) Tips?  Yeah, learn how to shoot.  Learn the safety rules before you become another statistic the Brady bunch can use against those of us who are very careful and practiced in the handling and use of firearms.

4) (and I'll gladly eat this crow if I'm wrong) - I strongly suspect that you are a troll.  The strange thing is, you won't be "tombstoned" for simply expressing an opposite opinion here.  Why not ask the questions you want answered directly?

You're welcome in retro.

1) the best all around AR is the A-2, basically an issue piece out of the box.

Well, barring the two other posts (both assuming I've never shot a weapon before in my life) and one mistake, thx.

My rifle will be used primarily for target practice, at a medium range, if that's what you were asking about.

Like I said, I won't mind having crow dinner if you're legit.
All the info about the AR15 you could ever want is available at this site.  Check out the other forums while you're here.

Okay....I will help.

Mr Shizzz (is that a rapping slang term?) how old are you?  Is this your first rifle?  DO you have any trainingg?

You can get a quality AR15 rifle for $800-$1100 brand new.  After you get it you will need ammo and training.  Try to find a local gun club in your area and ask about classes.  If they give you a hard time because you are new just take it and they will be more helpfull.

Understand?

Also, check out the armory forums and learn by reading.

Freeride21a's reccomendation

Bushmaster XM15E2S(or any equivalent version from brands mentioned above) 20" standard a2 style rifle.  Great rifle to learn on, and you will be happy!

If you want something different in future, just buy/trade for a different upper! easy as that.

Shizzzz,  Welcome you can't turn back now.  Take a look @ the NRA's website and learn about safety.  If you are safe, then most people will be happy to shoot with you. The AR is a great rifle for plinking, match shooting, hunting, and protecting your castle.  The "20 inch HBAR's are really good foundations to begin with.  You can shoot CMP or Service rifle matches. You can build other uppers to put on it.
You've come to the right place to learn much about our beloved rifle.

Again, Welcome aboard.
