Since it is prom season and my niece wants a stretched Hummer and five-hundred dollar dress
I figured I'd ask this question of the round-table. Do you think kids parents should foot the bill for stretch limo's and rooms(supoosedly for watching movies and saying good-bye's[:D]) at the Beverly Hilton? I took my date in a nicely washed and waxed Datsun pick-up.[:D] Had lots of fun, too. Couldn't afford a limo and my parents wouldn't foot the bill for a dime of it. I think kids nowadays just expect too much out of parents. |

My cousin, the one who wore Jordache jeans and feathered his hair, let me borrow his Mercedes 400 series convertible. I thought that I was the shit!

Me and my friends rented a mini school bus for the prom, the ones for kids with disabilities with the chair lift. Then stayed over a friends beach house. Paid for it all myself.

What Kinda Car Did You Take To The Prom?
An Aircraft Carrier...[:D] I found out later, when my senior prom was going on, I was an Aviation Ordnanceman working the flight deck conducting night combat ops in support of ground troops in the Republic of Vietnam..... |
|
Unfortunately, I went to 5 of them during my time in HS. The last one (my Senior Prom), my grandmother rented a limo for me, and footed the bill for the tux as well. I wound up "surprising" a friend of mine, and took he and his date, with my date and myself. It was a great time. As far as the room goes...Well, I'm a bit old fashioned about that, I wouldn't pay for that if I were a parent. That's trouble incarnate. Besides, my friend had a house down in Brant Beach, on LBI, on the Jersey shore. The next few days were good.

Took a two seat buggy powered by Old Ned the mule, the bonfire, sarsaparilla and hayloft were wicked man.

84 Toyota tercel
I had to pay for all my things. Parents taught me the value of the dollar the hard way. However, the Toyota was a hatch back with a fold down rear seat. I had the fore sight to pack a couple of blankets, and did some scouting for desolate back country roads.[;D] [sex] |

85 Dodge Omni, for my senior prom. What a waste, I have never once thought back and been glad I went. I went to all of the homecomings and proms, plus some extras for GFs that went to different schools or whatever. I hated those things, then or now. They served no function in enriching my life whatsoever. If you are still young enough to go to one of these things, and considering whether or not to go, my advice is don't, grab a twelve pack of whatever you like to drink, and hang out with some friends, or maybe take the money you would have spent and buy a crap load of ammo and have a grat day shooting, in twenty years you will remeber that more fondly.

Sr. Prom. 4 couples(well really the guys not the girls chipped in) chipped in for a stretch limo. We all chipped in for a hotel suite as well, where we all met and got picked up by the limo. We picked up our dates after that in the limo though. Then it was off to dinner, prom and back to the hotel. We all had after school jobs. Also we had a lil mobile DJ gig on the side. So no cash came from our parents. We all paid for the prom ourselves. Tickets, pics, limo, hotel and dinner. Forgot, for all the winter ball dances, we also had rented a limo. |

I went to two proms, mine and hers in 86. I had waited to get my lisence til I could buy my own car, so 3 weeks before prom I bought a 76 Buick LeSabre Custom. That car had a front seat that was just as big as the back seat. Woooooo.

In all 4 years I never attended a sports event, dance or anything else.
Even though they kept saying they weren't going weeks before, the day after the senior prom my "friends" were talking about what a great time they had. After that, I shut down all contact with them and I refused to recognize their right to exist. |
