I would not buy a glock in a standard caliber.

Why would I ever want one of those?
Wait, it would be a lot easier to trace a round thats only used in a glock. Enough said.

Let's see... There are already a million billion cartidges out there.  The economy is in a downturn.  Hundreds of thousands (my conservative estimate) of poeple want a practical/tactical Glock in .45 ACP that takes G21 mags to match the 34's & 35's.  What better time to introduce this?  [rolleyes]

Makes no sense to me.

...or it could be because the lower half (frame) is identical in all dimensions to the Glock 17.  It would not surprise me if Gaston had a large surplus of G17 frames and decided that this would be a great way to unload them.  Unless he floods the market with G.45 ammo the same time he releases the gun I personally think that the gun will fail.

Naw, I'm still waiting for the new .40 Jennings or the 10mm Lorcin calibers to be introduced.

Seriously though, is this just Glock's attempt to get their name on a fancy new cartridge?

The fact that Glock had something to do with it is the kiss of death for me.

Maybe if someone else came up with it?

Glock won't see one cent of my money for anything it's involved with.

I like Glocks but creating a new .45 is STUPID!!!

Not only that but I don't feel they've stopped the Bullet Fingerprinting crap yet...

Either way I'm staying away from Glocks until I see them mend their ways.

Why would any one want one in a non-standard cal?

only need for that would be in a country that would not let you own a "Military" calib.

get real Glock

Time will tell. Some pundits said the .40 S&W was a passing fancy when it first came out. It's basically a shortened 10mm cartridge.
View Quote

That is not a good comparison.

.40 S&W is a shorten 10mm but is also a very much less powerful round.

This .45 Glock round looks like a shorten case with the same velocities. I just do not see the point.

The "purpose" is 45ACP performance in a G17 sized frame.  There are a lot of people who can't handle the size of the G21, yet want a full size pistol.  This new round fits that bill.

I don't know how successful it will be, might end up going the way of the 5mm Rem. Mag, the 284 Win, and the 264 Win Mag.

I'm a DIE HARD Glocker over everything else, with an occasional Beretta or Sig for flavor.

That said, this 45 GAP is the dumbest idea to come along since the 1911.

WIth so many good things GLock could have done (Factory 6" Longslide 10MM/45, Single Stack subcompact 40, which would also allow for the same gun in .357 Sig), they went and did this.

Idiots.

Nah. That's a myth.
The recoil of the 10mm is that of a 4" .357 revolver, which was the dominant weapon in Law Enforcement for years.
Hundreds of thousands, if not millions of peace officers were able to handle that level of recoil just fine for a very long time.
I guess people have just gotten wimpier since then.

Like I said before, the 10mm was a solution to a nonexistant problem.  It was a dumb idea when it was invented, it was a dumber idea to try to resurrect it.  The guns are big and bulky, they don't hide well.  You can't fit alot of them into a compact package, and in practical terms there is no advantage of any kind.  Thank heavans someone at smith got the idea to right size it and gave us something practical and useable.

If you are smitten with dwarfism, then maybe you would have a hard time hiding the gun.
Furthermore, you should understand that all guns aren't meant to be "hidden".
As far as advantages, it is more powerful than the .45 ACP, shoots flater, penetrates better, and you get more of them.
That's a pretty big advantage.

I'll keep my Kimber Custom TLE II if i want anything that shoots a .45. I don't think that this whole Glock .45 is going to work out in the long run. How long has the .45 ACP been out, after all?

But I will still keep my G19. I shoot it very well, no matter what anyone else says.

I don't know where you get "bulky".
The round is slimmer than a 45, and can be built into a slender 1911 frame, if you have small hands and are the type so inclined towards 1911's.
The 10mm is very much a "practical tool".

As far as overpenetration, it can be uploaded, downloaded, or midloaded. However you want them.
I personally load mine hot, as you never know when you are going to need the extra juice, but you might prefer them weaker.
Good to have the option.

I guess it's the only way to shoe-horn .45 ACP performance into a g17/22 frame.

But why do that in the first place? Why not just lengthen the grip & slide of the little G36? A G36 with a 5" barrel & longer grip to hold 8-10 rds would be sweet.

I don't think anyone's going to want a G37 if you can't go to Wal-Mart & buy a box of plain FMJ for $15.

Glock's first blunder. Too bad.

While we're at it, how about they change the grip frame shape to be more like the Robar conversion with beavertail?

me thinks the 45 GAP rnd might be popular for PDs in europe but not in the US.

it seems that glock plastic frames and mags are made thicker than metal to hold up.
is it possible that if glock mags were made of thinner metal contruction rather than thicker plastic they wouldnt have this problem?
the problem of stuffing a longer fat round in a small frame.

everyone should get a box of 45 GAP ammo, why? cuz its gonna be a COLLECTORS ITEM when the gun fails.

It sounds like a hell of a good idea.

If the 9mm framed guns can handle the 45Glock WRT durability and reliability this sounds like a winner.  Too bad it did not come along in the early 80's when the wondernine phenomenom was in full swing.

Sounds like the best of both worlds - the ergonomics of a good 9mm with the 45 caliber.

I have average hands and hate my Beretta 92, the 1911 is so so, and the CZ-75 is *perfect.*

The standard velocity .45 is WAY below the normal operating pressures for a centerfire round. Cut the case, up the pressure, voila, the new .45.

I want some .45 Supers.

.45 is my favorite caliber, whether it be .45 ACP, .45 Colt or .45 WinMag.  That said I have no intention of buying a .45 Short or .45 Glock.  It is not just a solution without a problem, it's also a solution without a solution.

The speeds are not impressive really.  They are using smaller grain rounds.  You can certainly surpass that performance in properly loaded .45 ACP cartridges.

The world does not need nor want another proprietary cartridge.

Had the 10 round mag ban not been enacted, this would have never been thought of.  The Glock wide frame allows a short, fat cartridge to be loaded 10 to the magazine in something trim and easily handled by smaller people.

Personally, stick with a single-stack .45 ACP.  The wrap around reach is similar but the longer reach makes for better control.

And the .45 ACP will always trump the GAP once barrel length is considered.  And forget about .45 Super, its in the league of the .41 magnum and up.  Put a GAP bullet in a Super case with a magnum primer and a healthy dose of Blue Dot or N350 and look at 2100 ft/second.

In May 1980, when the Austrian Army opened bidding for a new service pistol, Glock didn't know the difference between a revolver and a semiautomatic pistol.
