Hmmm. 4 nukes within the vicinity of Fairbanks, but only one for Anchorage. Even more interesting is that the remote Red Dog Mine north of Kotzebue is a strategic target. Other questionable targets: Ft. Yukon, McGrath, and one other remote target. But I guess If you have thousands of warheads you might as well use them.

I live 1/2 mile away from a landing strip that can handle 60-80,000 lbs planes. 20 mins(cause of traffic) to O-hare.

Take a close look at the date of the FEMA document:1990. That doc was based on data from the mid 80s, before the Soviet collapse. It certainly does not reflect what an "attack" would be now. Most of the older ICBMs have been scraped or allowed to deteriorate to the point they are unreliable and inaccurate. If they were launched, few would hit their target; they could land anywhere.
On the other hand, in 1998, the Russians began deploying SS25 (Topol)& SS27 (Topol-M) missiles. The SS27 is an SS25 modified for mobile deployment. They deployed 1 battalion of SS27s in '98 and 2 per year in the following years; there are 10 missiles per battalion). They are carried on large tractor units, carry 1 warhead and have advanced penetration aids designed to fool any defensive missile we might build. They are state of the art and their support units are well funded and get the cream of the Russian military. Of course, there is the Chinese . . . |

I don't know why they would want to use 6 nukes here on the Twin Cities. There are tons of communists here.
I can only assume they are going after varius firearms manuf. (DPMS, Hesse, etc.) and the Fedral ammo plant. (besides the obvious population reason) If the nukes don't get me the fallout from the Dakotas will. [grenade] |

But I don't worry about the Soviets anymore. The Chinese don't have the tech level. I am more worried about some tramp freighter from the middle east loaded with a nuke and blows up some port city. Imagien blowing up New Orleans during the Super Bowl. The tidal wave would wash over every thing and many of our corporate/political leaders would be in town. |

I am not personally concerned about nuclear attack, I am concerned about a nuclear accident. Living in the Southern Calif., there are many Mexican nuclear power plant just south of the border that are held together by baling wire and innter tube. If they have an accident, Southern Californians(Not to mention the whole Southwestern U.S.) could be exposed to dangerous level of radioactive fallout in a matter of few days.

Then there was the 'hardening' of the missile silos, permitting a survivable counter strike against the Soviet Union. I remember thinking, forget all that, BLOW THE NUKES UP IN THEIR OWN SILOS! Would have been a really cool system had they implemented. As for where I am, it looks like TAMU has a dot on it. No suprise, there is a military school here. Of course, the Soviets would purposefully target TAMU and its Corp of Cadets. I believe that's where most general officers were trained and educated for service in World War II.
