Was introduced to him via O Brother Where Art Thou.  That whole movie soundtrack was gold, but this song was one of the best

Up until about four or five years ago, I would see him in our local grocery store about once a month.  Never bothered him, he was just another old man buying groceries.

That store would let him park his tour bus in their parking lot when he wasn't on the road.

We used to go to bluegrass festivals up here in the 70s. They held them at offseason ski slopes.

Led me into roots music, the blues, and other American classic art forms.

My dad played bluegrass music and had a bluegrass radio show here in upstate SC. He would have been super sad to hear this news. Dad died in 2004. Thanks to dad I can say I've listened to the Stanley Brothers since I was a baby. I'll be 40 in August.

McClure Va.

I will be working out of Danville by Monday. My friend in South Boston is big fan. Probably crack a jar in his Dr Stanleys honor.

Dr Ralph Stanley. I didn't realize he was doing all these bull shit disability fraud lawyer commercials around here. I finally realized it last night, told my wife, and listened to a bunch of the Stanley Brothers on youtube.
