The movie that scared a generation out of the water

I watched it the other day.  Still holds up and still very good.  The tension and suspense are awesome.  And that music!

Hell, I even liked jaws 2 and 3.

GREAT film, top-to-bottom.
Cinematography, effects, story, editing, music, sound... all of it.
Scared the holy hell out of me, I wouldn't even go swimming in the pool

Was fishing with my cousin off the coast of New England once, about 20 years ago.

His anchor got fouled on "something" and he didn't want to just cut the line and lose it, so we decided one of us would jump in the water and dive down a little to see if we could free it (we thought it might be hung up
on an old lobster trap).

I was a very good swimmer in my youth so I volunteered.

But right as I was about to jump in...THAT MUSIC started playing in my head.

I was, like, "just cut the fucking line."

I was 4 or 5 when it was out.  Scared the shit out of me.  The only thing that scared me more was the original Alien.

I figured I'd be the outlier there.  They were pretty cheesy.

I was fishing lot out of Montauk back then.  Mundus was a complete nutjob (Quint was based on him)

Find a dead bloated whale offshore and fish it for days and the biguns will show up....

Well I suppose if you look at them as cheese and a sort of Mirror Mirror continuation of Jaws just in a totally different universe they do have their moments, not many but a few. So I'll give you that, but I wouldn't go as far as saying I like them...and I like Ishtar and Hudson Hawk so yeeeeah...

I remember the day I saw it in summer of 1975.

The line to get in was about 300 yards long.  It was playing on three different screens IIRC.

Hot as shit too, standing outside in that line.

The scene that scared the ever lovin' fuck out of me was where the dead guy's head pops out of the hole in the bottom of the boat underwater.

I love that movie. A true classic........and it seemed like when I was a kid that was always on TV when we were at the beach........Dad loved to do that tune when we were in the ocean.......

I ran the movie when it came out on projectors  made in 1950 at the Theatre in our little town, I was in early teens.

It's still awesome.

I also have the crate the tiger shark that they necropsy was shipped in from Florida

It's a long story but I've had pizza with Spielberg a couple times.

Michael Caine said about Jaws: The Revenge, which he had top billing for if I'm remembering right: "I have never seen it, but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific."

...and that quote is hands down the best entertainment value out of the entire franchise after Jaws.

It is simply a matter of time before someone on Cape Cod,Nantucket or MV gets bit. It's just math: lots of people and every year more sharks.

Well like I said before they all have their moments, but in more of a cheesy-bad-fun sort of way than a this is actually a good movie one.

The new "JAWS" prints look fantastic on HDTV; much better than the NTSC garbage we've had to put up with for decades.

I was soooooo pumped the first time I went to Universal Studios in CA. All I wanted to do was go on the Jaws ride.

So there I was, all excited and took the first seat along the rail and made sure to be on the side that dips towards the water when the shark comes out.

Well, it started off okay, then that shark came out of the water and I nearly pissed myself. Jumped across the laps of five adults and cowered in the seat on the FAR side of the ride.

Scared the bejezzus out of me.

Just watched the whole movie again for maybe the 50th time recently.  John Milius helped write the amazing USS Indianapolis speech by Quint. The modern trailers are good but the original with the hook "..it is as if God created the devil and gave him, jaws." is awesome.

As others have said, it has held up very well.
Better than many/most others IMO

LOL

For father's day my rodents let me choose the movie to watch.  I chose Jaws as the rodents hadn't seen it yet.

Yesterday my wife took them to the beach.

Heh heh.

The M1 Garand that was used in the movie was on display at the Springfield Arsenal in Springfield, MA last year.  The M1 gets it done on both giant sharks and the Axis.
