my 1966 Motor Manual doesn't go back that far, but the spec for 1959 F-head and L-head 4 cylinders is 20 thousandths. They may not have changed in that time.

hey, just looked at the motor manual again and realized there were "old car" specs in the back. The correct spec is .020" with a plug gap of .030"
btw, if you want I can scan in the page for you because it has other useful specs. let me know. |

Timing mark is on the flywheel remove the small cover on the bellhousing to expose it. Or do what I do and mark the carnk pulley based on visually turning the engine over and watching the points when they close for # cyl. This is enough to get you running, then set it by ear/feel.
BTW unless you are doing a die hard restoration, the next time you do any carb work buy a Solex replacment carb. It's the ebst thing I have done for any of my old military jeeps, I have the originals for restoration sake but on the ones operated daily the Solex goes on. |
