Download and install Kodi app. Install plugins and watch tv, movies, sports, ppv and listen to tunes for free. It's pretty easy to set up. http://www.wirelesshack.org/how-to-install-kodi-on-a-raspberry-pi-3.html I'm running it on my Fire Sticks.

I'm running RPis as free VOIP fax and voice, a "radar," media servers, and I've ran them as a vpn server in the past. Think of tasks, mostly single tasks, that you would do with a computer, and you can usually do it with a Pi, plus you have inputs.
Mail servers, small web servers, home automation and management, robotics and machining controllers, whatever. |

I would make a AlexaPi (Amazon Echo clone) to control my Home Automation stuff. It allows you to voice control lights, irrigation, thermostats, etc...
Or, load OpenElec on it and use it for Kodi. |

And there is a python api to directly interact with it which is fun. |

I'm building a radio controlled Fireboat controlled from an iPhone. The iPhone talks to an RPi3 on the boat which controls servos and motors controlling prop speed and direction, and pan/tilt of two nozzles. Communications via wifi. Wifi tested....very fast...9ms latency. Phone software uses gyroscope and accelerometer to send commands to boat based on rotation and tilting of iPhone. It's all rapidly coming together.
A friend is designing the drive mechanism in 3D. I take his software to local MakerSpace and print those parts or cut them on the laser cutter. Later I will add a compass module so the pi can move boat on a compass heading. Later may add ultrasonic, laser, or photo sensors so boat is atonomous and can seek own targets. I have yet to determine if the Fireboat should put out fires or start fires. It is a Fireboat and I'm trying to figure out exactly what that means. It might be fun to build more than one and have them operate in swarms. With a pi onboard, the possibilities are endless. |
