I've considered that, it may be a possibility. I already have snes9x and other emulators on my laptop that I don't play though...

Download and install Kodi app. Install plugins and watch tv, movies, sports, ppv and listen to tunes for free. It's pretty easy to set up. http://www.wirelesshack.org/how-to-install-kodi-on-a-raspberry-pi-3.html I'm running it on my Fire Sticks.

Looks cool. Since the Pi 3 actually has WiFi this time around, can I control the Pi and stream KODI from my phone?

ETA: nevermind, found the answer. Might be worth it.

Nothing exciting.  Had a webserver that logged the IP of people visiting, then does a port scan of the visitor while loading really basic website, and reports all basic connection ports that it finds into a log file.  File server (really hard on SSD stuffs).  I have a zero that I was doing load testing on.  Have a pi2B+ that is configured for ADS-B coupled with a RTLSDR, but it'd offline right now awaiting a move to a remote location.   Gave away one of my zero's since i would rather have other full size pi's to work with.

But I do lotsa computer junk when im bored.

Had to look up what the hell an ADS-B and RTLSDR were... that actually sounds interesting. I have no use for something like that, but that doesn't mean I don't want to do it now

I would totally do that, but I shouldn't have even spent the money on the Pi. Not buying another $80-300 display. I'll be restricted to my TV or monitor.

I used it just cause i enjoy aviation.  worked in it for 10 years.   Plus if youre competitive you can try to get a higher number of reports/plans/locations than your area.   I was bouncing between 2nd and 3rd on the list after a custom antenna.  But I can't fight the fact im in a hole surrounded by 50ft of elevation rise in all directions.

Set it up so you can view your feeds directly on your TV? That is what I am doing with my most recent Pi. Other one is running Kodi which I am currently watching.

ETA:

Control Kodi with a $8 IR sensor and my Harmony remote. The app works OK too.

Free, unlimited cameras, unlimited retention. Super easy to install and use.
The practical limit of the Pi with the software is 6-8 HD cameras.
Just add a USB hard drive and you have a very nice little inexpensive DVR for home security.

Accidentally? That's what I tell my wife when I purposefully buy a gun that, "I was only looking at and didn't mean to accidentally drop my credit card into the slot on the counter. Well, I can't return it now so I might as well keep it."

Yeah, you accidentally bought that.

I did this, but built a 4 person pedestal. I don't play it as much as I'd hoped. That might have something to do with having a 10 month old son. But, it was a fun project to do, my first woodworking project. It will also be around for years and my son will be able to enjoy playing it when he gets older.
Total investment was about 10 hours of time for woodworking and wiring plus about $400 in material.

I'm running RPis as free VOIP fax and voice, a "radar," media servers, and I've ran them as a vpn server in the past.  Think of tasks, mostly single tasks, that you would do with a computer, and you can usually do it with a Pi, plus you have inputs.

Mail servers, small web servers, home automation and management, robotics and machining controllers, whatever.

Just finished teaching a introduction to python class (using Minecraft) to kids this week. Bought 20 raspberry pi 3s and 20 7" screens to use with them so they could easily bring everything to class. Worked great to learn python, unix, etc.

I would make a AlexaPi (Amazon Echo clone) to control my Home Automation stuff.  It allows you to voice control lights, irrigation, thermostats, etc...

Or, load OpenElec on it and use it for Kodi.

There's a version made specifically for the pi. It doesn't have survival mode, but most everything else is there. And there is a python api to directly interact with it which is fun.

I'm building a radio controlled Fireboat controlled from an iPhone. The iPhone talks to an RPi3 on the boat which controls servos and motors controlling prop speed and direction, and pan/tilt of two nozzles. Communications via wifi. Wifi tested....very fast...9ms latency. Phone software uses gyroscope and accelerometer to send commands to boat based on rotation and tilting of iPhone. It's all rapidly coming together.

A friend is designing the drive mechanism in 3D. I take his software to local MakerSpace and print those parts or cut them on the laser cutter.

Later I will add a compass module so the pi can move boat on a compass heading. Later may add ultrasonic, laser, or photo sensors so boat is atonomous and can seek own targets.

I have yet to determine if the Fireboat should put out fires or start fires. It is a Fireboat and I'm trying to figure out exactly what that means.

It might be fun to build more than one and have them operate in swarms. With a pi onboard, the possibilities are endless.
